Re: 890 lumen Mako light

Hmm, learn somthin' new every day. I used to carry a backup light at work but stopped using it because those cr123 batteries are so expensive. After reading this thread, I looked at that light on...

Re: Speaking of hawks...

OK, I'm gonna have to take this opportunity to brag on my boys and our community.
No, they don't go to a private school. The public high school, AND the middle school, have trap shooting as a...

Re: Speaking of hawks...

My boys are pretty comfortable around guns. One of my sons is on the high school trap shooting team, and has his own shotgun. He really wants to hunt, but I need to get him into a hunter's safety...

Re: Speaking of hawks...

I'm pretty sure I'd like your wife!
My wife and I agree on most things, but we have different upbringings. I grew up in the country. I was taught not to kill indiscriminately, but if a critter...

Re: Speaking of hawks...

See Max, it goes a little deeper than that. Let me explain. I love eating rabbit. Raised them as a kid. I really want to eat one of these cottontails, but when I go hunting, I never see one. ...

Re: Speaking of hawks...

I felt bad though. I opened the sliding glass door a bit to take the photos and after a couple shots, the hawk got nervous and took off. He was carrying the rabbit, but dropped it in the yard. He...

Speaking of hawks...

This guy made breakfast out of one of the cotton tails that has been grazing on the grass in my back yard this morning. Very cool.

Re: Drone racing through forests like in Star Wars

I don't know about other states, but in CA it's illegal to harass or interfere with hunters/fishers in the lawful pursuit of quarry. It's been tried in various creative ways, and I'd think drones...

If they do that in the forest while I'm trying to deer hunt, it will be very expensive...

Re: Are cloaking devices coming that will enable invisibility?

They've been out for a long time. Apparently my wife and I wear one every time we go to a restaurant and try to get decent service. We become "the invisible couple"...

Re: Fast and furious...... part TREE!

OK, this is gonna piss some folks off, but here's my take. Yes, it's a shame they died, but it would have been a real tragedy if they had hit a family, like mine or yours, instead of a tree. They...

Re: UK SL4 eLED vs UK C4 eLED

I tried rechargeables in a 4c UK halogen light. Turning the light on and off as needed, they never lasted through a 2 hour dive. That's why I stopped using that light and went to an led. My...

Re: UK SL4 eLED vs UK C4 eLED

I've been using rechargeable AA's in my Princeton Tec Impact XL 4cell. I don't think it's recommended, but it works and appears as bright as alkaline's.
If I knew for sure it was OK, I'd use 8 of...

Re: Have you heard of the Exosuit dive suit?

Re: Have you heard of the Exosuit dive suit?

OK this is off topic, sorry.
Moose, you might be able to answer this. Our local lake, (Donner), is approximately 325' deep, and at an altitude of 6000'. My sons and I freedive it often, and the...

Re: Have you heard of the Exosuit dive suit?

Wow. Looks pretty fancy, but I don't think I'd care to go 1000' down in it, no matter how well it works.

Re: Low Viz guns

I've never been a fan of pole spears, and just prefer a gun. My go to gun in NorCal is a Rob Allen 70, but when the vis really sucks or I'm focusing on holes, I like my Riffe C-0.
My buddy loves...

Re: How much do you worry about cig?

Glad I read this. Took the family to Maui a couple years ago and I did some freedive spearing. All I shot was a Roi and a Menpachi. I had hired a guide that said the Roi could be "hot", but that...
