Re: Has anyone worked on developing speargun sights?

If the battery and laser were self contained at the muzzle, might there be a way to "signal" the laser to activate without a physical connection to a rear mounted switch?

For example, could a tilt...

Re: Ermes double roller trigger for Denton?

In my experience, mechanism housings that are folded, like the Ermes-Sub mechs, often vary a tiny bit vs. the nominal thickness simply due to manufacturing tolerances. If there are places along the...

Re: Carbon fiber barrel and ball end router bit question for hybrid gun build

This might not be the simplest way to go about it, but you sound like you have access to a mill, so a right angle attachment might be another option:

Re: Roller trigger thought

I'll have to think about that a bit. I definitely agree with your logic, but this is a new configuration (at least to me). I would love the additional feedback, but I feel like I need to abuse it in...

Re: Roller trigger thought

I received my small batch of trigger internals from the waterjet shop a few days ago. I drilled the holes to final size, and then gave them an overnight run in the tumbler to smooth out any sharp...

Re: Abellan Albacore 130 Test

According to some of the promotional literature that I have read, yes. But I haven't personally tried.

I don't hunt big open water fish or shoot slip tips, so this is more of a question...

Re: Roller trigger thought

Pete,

In this picture from the Ermes-sub website of their "Ocean" model trigger, it appears that maybe a roll pin is inserted through both the slot and the roller after the roller is positioned...

Re: Abellan Albacore 130 Test

3D printed adapter? Capabilities are getting better, and prices are getting lower.

It can't rotate around the shaft like a slide ring, though.

Re: Roller trigger thought

I ordered a few sets of waterjet cut triggers and sears today that I can retrofit to mechanism housings that I have which are outfitted with safeties. Hopefully soon I'll be able to test this design...

Re: Roller trigger thought

I wouldn't personally want the trigger pull any lower than that, or maybe even a bit higher. I guess the way I look at it is that if you can get the variable part of the trigger pull (the friction)...

Re: Roller trigger thought

So I packed it with some wet beach sand and gave it a go. I quickly found that I had to shake some out just to make room for the shaft to insert and for everything to move inside the cassette. With...

Re: Roller trigger thought

I don't think so. A ball provides a smaller contact area which could yield the mating components, unless those components were grooved like the races of a ball bearing. I think it would also be...

Re: Roller trigger thought

All true. I've learned the hard way in my day job that wear in the presence of abrasives can be tough to predict. More than a few times, I have seen soft components like bronze or plastic sleeves...

Re: Roller trigger thought

A fair bit of the trigger pull is due to the bias spring strength. I made my prototypes from components that I already had on hand, but a lighter spring would certainly help. Likewise, I sized...

Re: Roller trigger thought

Ideally, I would like to do the testing on my test rig, since that lets me test fire the mechanism repeatedly in a short period of time. That would be a dry test on a bench top, so while it isn't...

Re: Roller trigger thought

I think so. In my limited experience with just a few prototypes, it seems like something as simple as changing the position and radii where the roller falls off the tips of the trigger and sear can...

Re: Roller trigger thought

For the first series of tests, I created a trigger with an arc segment load bearing surface (blue in the sketch below), but the sear was flat faced. I really just wanted to see if the “floating...

Roller trigger thought

I’ve been thinking about roller style trigger mechanisms. When different manufacturers coalesce around the same basic design, it’s probably a sign that said approach is the best. But still . . .

Re: Pin diameter at the rear of Rob Allen Vecta

If there is a welding supply store near you, maybe you can get a piece of 5/32" 316L TIG welding rod.

Re: 2015 gun mounted light / go pro / handle kill spike / shark spike /spare shaft th

"Better" depends on what your priorities are, but I do like the plastic light mounts for exactly the reason that you mentioned. I keep it back at the handle most of the time, where it doesn't affect...

Re: Do you care if your shaft rusts? Or would you rather more bending resistance?

This doesn't quite fit what you asked, but I like 17-4 shafts in part because I'm always tinkering and they are so easy to work with. Easy to cut, drill, thread, etc. My shafts get shorter over...

Re: Alternative Blank Material

The properties seem comparable to HDPE / UHMW in most respects (except lower specific gravity and much lower elongation at break). Generally not the stiffest materials.

Re: MAKO AR-15 handle

The problems that I am aware of happened on guns that were relatively new, and this doesn't seem to be something that develops with time or use. I will continue to use mine this summer, and like...
