Re: Striped bass and bluefish PCB problem

I totally agree. PCBs and heavy metals accumulate in the fish's tissues over time so the younger the fish, the safer it is to eat.

Re: Safety or no ?

I don't want to enter the fray but rather to put in my two cents for survey purposes:

I'm a shooter and hunter and have been for my entire life. In those cases, safeties are always on until...

Re: The New better kid

I agree. I use both types of guns, euro and american-mid-handle. In my opinion they are situationally appropriate choices. Conditions, visibility, dive plan, and target quarry will all dictate...

Re: Urgent Question on Poaching Trigger Fish

When I say "gill" I just mean removing the gills when you clean the rest of the guts out.

And yes, the liver gets minced up when you are sauteing along with the onions and garlic.

I usually use...

Re: Urgent Question on Poaching Trigger Fish

One more thing:

Skinning the fish can be a bit tricky if you've never done it. I usually run a sharp knife down the top and bottom of the fish cutting off the dorsal and anal fins (you'll have to...

Re: Urgent Question on Poaching Trigger Fish

I used to live in the Turks and Caicos Islands and Queen Triggerfish was one of our bread and butter staples when we shot fish. The way the islanders cook it is as follows:

Gut and gill fish....

Water Clarity

Hey Guys,

I went for a little swim this past weekend (not hunting, just snorkeling) just to have a little look. The water was cold but not unbearable in my 3.5mm two piece open cell suit. I...

Re: POLL - What is your pony bottle usage while scuba dive hunting?

Adding more gear (like a pony set up) to your rig and a bailout or emergency gas supply change to your procedures increases task loading and therefore stress loading. When you are doing a...

Re: Garas or Riffe Silent Hunters?

It all depends on what fits best. If the foot pockets on either don't match your foot (and the Garas and the Riffes both fit differently) then you will hate them after being in the water for a...

Re: Do you use a Mako wetsuit?

I've got the floaty leg problem even with my 3.5mm. I solved the issue with weights on my fin footpockets. Let's me lie on the bottom in a good shooting position.

I think that, from the...

Do you use a Mako wetsuit?

Does anyone here use one of the thicker (5mm or 7mm) Mako open cell suits? I have one of their 3.5mm open cell suits and I freakin love it. I even scuba dive in it during the warmest months. ...

Re: Bobcats in RI

Oh, that's great. Those woods down past the SK police station go from Curtis Corner Road all the way up to my freakin' backyard! Guess the kids shouldn't be back in the woods tromping around in...

Re: coolest thing you've found while diving

I once found a dead seal. It was a baby harbor seal about 3 feet long. Perfectly intact like it was taking a nap.

I also once found a Heineken bottle that was buried in the sand with nothing but...

Re: Wetsuit lube advice

Thanks for the replies. I figured that a new suit was the likely answer (it's what I told him, but he's cheap). Will pass along the plastic bag idea and see if that helps. I'm sure glad that I...

Wetsuit lube advice

Hi.

I have no problems with my suit because I use an open cell suit with your standard homebrew suit juice. My buddy, on the other hand, has an old, lined closed-cell suit and has trouble suiting...

Re: cleaning skate

My family on my mother's side is from Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia. In that region, stingray (very similar to skate in taste, texture, and preparation) is considered a delicacy. The South East...

Re: Flounder spearing
