Re: Spearguns for Dogtooth Tuna

Here are a bunch of pneumatic speargun tails and sliders, or line slides.

Re: Rob Allen knot.

I have found when untangling loose line that it seems to invent all sorts of knots as the loops inter-splice with each other, some defy undoing without pliers! Must be some good knots there, ditto...

Re: Spearguns for Dogtooth Tuna

Speaking of Pelengas they now have a larger version of their reel. 35 to 40 meters capacity depending on line diameter....

Re: Spearguns for Dogtooth Tuna

I bought one of the Pelengas titanium sliders in 7 mm, but have not used it yet as it was to replace the stainless steel slider on my Pelengas. However the original slider works OK and to replace it...

Re: Tool to cut yourself out of kelp quickly?

I have worn this set-up for a couple of decades, only the knives have changed. The weight belt is of the same wire buckle type, but I wear them opposed, so I know which side is which, the second...

Re: Tool to cut yourself out of kelp quickly?

I use two belts, a weight belt and another belt for a knife and anything else that I may be carrying. The photos show my brain surgery knife, my hack their heads off knife and an old Wenoka that you...

Re: Spearguns for Dogtooth Tuna

Rubber bands are a lossy material for energy storage and that lowers the efficiency of the band gun. Pneumatic guns have low losses due to their use of compressed air column “springs” and much...

Re: Spearguns for Dogtooth Tuna

You can minimize the slide ring or stop ring damage by making it lighter. On my "Black Sea" gun the stop ring is thin and not very heavy, however it is not made of aluminium nor stainless steel,...

Re: Anyone know what gun this is?

This is an Aquacraft gun, the grand-daddy. The name-plate was deleted in the later guns, but a close examination will show where it was as evidenced by a thin line indicating its perimeter.

Re: "Champion" Arbalete Four socket gun with Para-vane.

I should point out that the gun itself is not rare, they were produced in their thousands, if not tens of thousands, but that fitting is rare as it added to weight and was a snagging hazard. Guns...

"Champion" Arbalete Four socket gun with Para-vane.

Here is something that you rarely see, the four socket head Cavalero "Champion" Arbalete with a Paravane on the tube barrel. The winged fitting is original equipment, but for obvious reasons not...

Re: Anyone know what gun this is?

The PATCO handle and mech are the same as the Bandito and both are descendants of the virtually identical Aquacraft guns from the sixties which were produced by Lionel Long. The only difference in...

Re: Slingshot Weapon with pulleys

Seems that Bandito Spearguns still has the pulley drive "Sea Archer" in stock and I have ordered one. You need to supply your own spear, I intend to chop the tail off one of my spare shafts of which...

Re: The Infinite Engines Dreamair moves from dream to reality

I am sure it is not intentional, it will just be a by-product, but the drums are larger than simple rollers, the spiral tracks on them are the length of the wishbone draw, plus inside there is the...

Re: The Infinite Engines Dreamair moves from dream to reality

It occurs to me that the “Dreamair” gun’s spinning axle and drums may act to stabilize the gun during the shot, rather like a gyro-stabilizer.

Re: Slingshot Weapon with pulleys

The key to the "Sea Archer" is the raised fence on the pulley that the band wraps against as the pulley rotates as that changes how the band pulls on the pulley in terms of offset and alignment to...

Re: Slingshot Weapon with pulleys

Looks like the Bandito guy has a "Sea Archer" and may have got the tooling that made them, as Aquacraft made the alloy tube spearguns that he now makes and the "Sea Archer" as well. Lionel Long...

Re: Tool to cut yourself out of kelp quickly?

Dive knives were originally hand made with timber or cork handles, you can see instructions on how to make one in "Dive" by Rick and Barbara Carrier, a book from the mid-fifties.

When full line...

Re: DIY: MK2 Single band CF skinned 98cm band stretch gun

The bands, or the connecting cord between them are trapped under the muzzle plate? To replace bands does that plate come off? You have an insert in the end of the muzzle nose on the stock and I...

Re: DIY: How to cast PU handles for guns

Very good, plus no problems about it fitting your hand. As you split the mold to get the item out you could cross hatch the mold surface to produce ribs or a checker pattern on the grip.

Re: Slingshot Weapon with pulleys

There are always people who want to ban spearguns and in areas of Japan they have already done so, hence Hawaiian slings and other gadgets like these "bows" are the only underwater hunting tools left...

Re: Rollergun feedback: Petar Pan, Alemanni, Briante, Carbonia

That is OK, in fact it suited me right out of the box, and I did not have to change anything (you get two rear handle sections and a bunch of spacers and screws to push the rear of the handle back or...

Re: Rollergun feedback: Petar Pan, Alemanni, Briante, Carbonia

Maybe cut a template out of thick cardboard to show the dimensions you want for your handgrip and finger reach or you take a mold with some material and send it with your order. A little bit of...

Re: Rollergun feedback: Petar Pan, Alemanni, Briante, Carbonia

If you want to pay 2 grand for a gun then I think all the makers can accommodate you on that score. The Alemanni Travel guns seem a great idea and you can always have full length spears in a travel...
