Re: Daily Vis report thread

Safeties, lol. I’ll pass.

We’ll have viz until August and then you can hang it up, unless we get some fantastic semi calm wind.

Water was filthy yesterday. I don’t think this weekend is going...

Daily Vis report thread

Duh duh duh, Dmill to the rescue with another helpful, insightful post!

First off, I talk to all the guys fishing before I jump in and let them know my intentions so we can work together. Hell,...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

I went the other day, it was like 2ft, by the rocks... Deep it was zero. We collectively saw two tog. How was the viz bad, but tons of fish? We're heading back down tomorrow...

I'll be making my...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

That's cleaner than BI was. You weren't shooting any tog in there today with the dredger going. We still managed another big fluke though, this one over 9lbs. I might hit it again tomorrow, but 4...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

The short answer is no, 2mm is not 2mm. A surf suit will "crush" sooner than an open cell. And you end up getting colder A LOT quicker. Short answer, again, when you're trying to lower your heart...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Do yourself a favor and order a 3mm from mako. They're on sale right now. $150 shipped to your door... That surf suit, IMO, only serves any purpose in the summer when it's warm. I never dive in surf...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Didn't you check the tide Ric? What suit are you in that you got cold? I've been fine in my 3/3.5 for a month now, even in the 50s I survive a couple hours.

Yesterday was a rough dive. Not much...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Park is now open anyway. I'm still debating it. Don't feel like dealing with traffic, people, and fishermen. Viz was decent yesterday with what should be, better wind conditions today.

Re: Who is going out this weekend?

Uh, yep. I'm hoping there is some viz by this weekend, but it's unlikely. I might jump in just because I can still shoot sheepshead in 3 feet...

Re: wetsuit for Jersey

I will only pee in my suit in an extreme situation. I've dove in my 5mm probably 50 times, and peed in it twice. Both times were awful... I cut the top off my 3mm before I ever dove with it... I know...

Re: Sheepshead

Yep, they're way easier to spot in low viz. Like I said, those stripes really pop in the water. Once you see one, you'll never think a tog is a sheepie again...

And I agree, I was shocked by how...

Re: Sheepshead

They don't swim the same either... Sheepshead tend to dart around a lot faster. They're very distinct looking. Those stripes really stick out, even in dirty water.

Re: wetsuit for Jersey

3/5mm will cover everything you need to do.

70-90 in a band gun is my recommendation.

Re: Who is going out this weekend?

First thing I'd do is get signed up for one of those freedive classes. It'll teach you some basics before you get out in the ocean and deal with current and every other hazard that comes with...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

I feel like many people underestimate viz sometimes. In 3-5 feet, you were lucky enough to swim directly over two fluke yesterday. 3 feet is poo. 5 is just the area where you go ok, gonna be tough...

I'm gonna try to nab that last spot. I just have to reconfirm I'm off from work first.
