Adding a shooting tab to a shaft?

I have a 55" Wong Hybrid w/ 3- 9/16" bands & the shaft only has 2 shooting tabs. It works but interferes with my line of site and I'm getting real tired of missing point blank shots as if I were a blind man. It'd be really nice to get er all set up with a more clear line of vision. I'm trying to figure out the most cost effective way to add a tab. Any ideas?

If you go the RIFFE in San Clemente, they'll weld on another tab for you. Not sure what it costs but they've done it for free the last time I went in to buy other gear. Hope this helps.

Send a PM to west coast x. He might be able to help you out. Sharkfins are welded on I believe, if you can weld or have a friend that is set up to do so you could take care of it that way.

Drill the shaft and put a stainless steel rod in the hole.

Just learn to aim the gun. Truthfully, you don't need more than 2 tabs, and it absolutely does NOT negatively affect accuracy to have multiple bands on a tab. One thing is for sure; if I was to weld a tab on the shaft for you.... the shaft is going to be annealed there, and it will bend when you are leaning on a heavy fish. To bring it back in, you'd have to re-heat treat the shaft.

I have shot my tuna gun with 5 bands on it for a long time, and that is 2 tabs with 2 bands, and the front tab with 1 for good luck. I did shoot it with 6 bands, but man, what overkill.
Once you learn to shoot it, it will be really accurate. Time to jump into a pool and target shoot the gun.

I didnt want to say this because i figured you knew the deal with aiming midhandles. I have the same gun and had to make some adjustments to my shooting to get dialed in. Once i took it in the pool, give or take 30 shots, i was able to get tight groups everytime, up to 23 ft away.

BTW I have mine powered up with (2) 5/8" and (1) 9/16" bands that are 29 1/2" in long.

Extra tabs won't clean up your sigh picture or help you aim. If you want to spread out the bands, get one of those wings for the front end of your gun.

I'm sure to catch some flak for this, but have you thought of small-radius, rod wishbones? I use mostly Spectra, but one gun has rods, and it's very easy on the sight picture...scratches the heck out of your gun top though.

right on... thanks for all the feedback folks. I was aware of the whole potential for compromising the strength of the shaft if another tab was welded on which is actually what prompted this thread. And I have used the rod wishbones and prefer to stick w/ Spectra... + putting 2 of the rod wishbones on 1 tab wouldn't really work. Anyway, sounds like some pool practice it is. It's always nice to just go with the least expensive solution too. haha.

I know this isn't a cheap short term solution, but you can get Mori to put three fins on a 9/32" shaft. I think he charged me an extra $10 for the third fin.

And then, if you want to clean up the sight lines down the shaft, you can use his stainless wire wishbones, which hold the bands apart.

i use these and i love them. if you bend the innermost wishbone in about 3/4 of an inch, and the next a half inch, and leave the last one alone, they will sit perfectly with the bands aligned. leaves a great line of sight, they are re useable, easy to tie and about 8 bux a piece.

metal wish bones are loud if you are having issues w sighting make bands with longer wish bones that way the the rubber is not stacking up. Also just practice those are good guns.

I haven't noticed that the sound gets there before the shaft.
