Went out to try and get one more fish before moving back to the Left Coast.. Chip, John and Richard were great company as usual.. First drop I was able to find a gag and sent him up on a bag...

Water was great all day..Warm, great vis and lobster and fish everywhere!!!

Near the end of the day John came up and told us the story of a grouper he shot on some structure.. He was sick that he lost it and couldn't find it again... So on our way in Chip and I asked if we could drop in and look for it..

John told us where to look and explained that the fish can't be too far because he hit it "JUST BELOW AND BEHIND THE GIL PLATE"......

So Chip and I hit bottom and look around.. and hiding in some rocks was this grouper.. So we stoned it and go to grab it.

WOW!!! John did hit it right below and behind the gil plate.. Turns out this grouper had two sets of gil plates... One closer to the tail.. (See Picture below)

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

i really hate seeing gutted fish that come off of charters.

Sooo glad you took that picture Doug! Can't hit them all in the head... in hindsight I probably should have waited another second before pulling the trigger .. but he's in the boat and thats all that matters...I'm gonna have to dig through the picture vault and see if I can find one of your body shots Doug = 0 .... I lose sleep if I can't find a wounded fish... but its few and far between that I can't get a fish out.
