Re: Cambria B&B Recommendations?
Personally I stay away from B&B's and instead rent a home. You might be surprised at what you can find for the price. VRBO is a good place to start...

Re: Cambria B&B Recommendations?
My parents are thinking about buying a house up there... Any one know where some decent spots are to dive? I've been to moonstone beach a bunch of times, but it's always flooded with sea lions and seals.

Can get to quite a few spots in Big Sur from Cambria within an hour. Plenty of good spots in Sur to hit.

Like what was mentioned above, VRBO is a great place to go to find a inexpensive vacation rental. My wife however is very fond of the Fogcatcher Inn. It is right on Moonstone Beach. Have fun and let know how it goes.

Re: Cambria B&B Recommendations?
Thanks guys, I just spent an hour on VRBO and there are quite a few rentals up there.
It looks like a fun option, but for 2 people it looks like it might be cheaper to get a hotel with all the amenities. Fogcatcher looks cool, thanks.

I like cambria pines lodge and Its off the water but nice. Robbins is nice for a good dinner. Main street grill for lunch. See the elephant seals at Piedras Blancas and take a tour of Hearst Ranch. she should be stoked.

2nd choice if you go with a hotel, definitely the Cambria Pines Lodge. I used to stay there all the time as a kid when my parent took me up there and I remember it being absolutely beautiful. Again, not right on the beach, just a hair up in the hills, but well worth giving up the water view for the peace and quiet (and peacocks) the lodge offers. |

Re: Cambria B&B Recommendations?
+2! Cambria Pines has new owners as of about three years ago, still cheap, and they redid almost the whole place in a cool retro way. Nice folks, free loaner townie bikes, great landscaped grill area, a firepit with a view of the hills, and ab shell ashtrays, just classic.

Re: Cambria B&B Recommendations?
I have worked in Cambria for 14 years now. I do not know of any bed and breakfast places. But you cannot go wrong with renting a house or getting a hotel. Their are many vacation rentals. Go to the various real estate office websites and many of them have rental properties.
As far as hotels. Cambria Pines Lodge is nice. If you want a dramatic view go to any of the hotels on Moonstone Beach Drive. Their is a great boardwalk to walk the entire length of the beach on the bluff. Also at the north end of Moonstone is Leffengwell Landing. A place to launch small boats across the beach. I launch my inflatable their often. Here are some suggestions for food places. Breakfast go to Moonstone beach Bar and Grill. They have a great Sunday Brunch and the best view in town. For lunch Indigo Moon. They have a smoked salmon sandwich that is excellent. Also, about 5 minutes up the road across from the San Simeon Pier is an old general store called Sebastians. They have an amazing deli there with all their beef sandwiches using Hearst Ranch Beef. For a nice dinner I would go to Black Cat Cafe, Indigo Moon, or Old Stone Station. Robin's is good as well. For hikes, Walk or mountain bike the East West ranch. This is about a 3/4 mile stretch of land that spans between Marine Terrace and Sea Cliff Estate. It is a beautiful hike on the bluff with no houses and cool benches to sit and ponder life as you sit and stare a the ocean. Another great hike is walking out to the Point at San Simeon Bay. An amazing walk through the forest that ends up at the point. The last hike I would recommend is Salmon Creek Waterfall. It is about a 30 minute drive from from Cambria Up Highway one. You pull off on the side of the road and hike about 10 minutes east. You will end up at a beautiful waterfall and very cool rock formation. As far as diving goes, there is some great diving out in front of moonstone beach in Cambria but you really need a boat or Kayak to get past the runoff from the creek and the sandstone cliffs. Their is great structure and plenty of rockfish and an occasional halibut. The conditions up past San Simeon are usually cleaner water and bigger fish. Find a pull out that is close to the water and hike down. The trails can be steep and long, but you can be rewarded with clean water and the cove or point all to yourself. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. |

260 Worchester is where we always stay. $185 a night for 2 people. Ocean views and just a 2 min drive to moonstone. |
