Sat. Jupiter Dives

Went out with JDC on Saturday and did all four dives. They had a class on
the Temptation doing wrecks so I tagged along. I hung on the barge trying
to get a nice size black grouper to pop out for a look but he did not oblige,
swam over to the Esso and just as I was about to finish the dive with 800
lbs of air the biggest cobia I have ever seen swam close but not close
enough for a guaranteed neck shot so I did not feel like fighting a 80-100
pound cobia with a misplaced shot because I would have lost with only
that much air left. We dropped on the wrecks again and as I swam up
to the barge the black swam out in the sand but luckily did not give me a
shot as three really big Lemon sharks were resting right on the other side
of the barge and I imagine they would have been right there to claim the fish
and maybe my gun too. I went and hung out on the Esso again hoping the
cobia would come by but he did not. Ham the dive master saw the Cobia too
and at first thought it was a reef shark as that was how big it was. Vis was
about 20-30ft on the first dive and less on the second as we stirred it up.
Temps are still 76 degrees.
Went out on Reublic in the afternoon for lobsters and we went deep in 95
ft to find the vis and I managed six nice lobsters to finish out the day.

Glad to hear there's still some large cobes hangin around!

I can remember seeing but not shooting 'em that size; they haunted me in my dreams for the following weeks. Hopefully you'll get a shot at 'em next time. Until then - sleep well bro

Good grabs there Tom! Good decision on the fat cobe...800 lbs remaining and the possibitlity of that kind of fight "tips the scales" into a "oh well, next time" for me too...unless I was in fed waters with my PH attatched!
