Laguna scallops

I know that taking scallops in Laguna is prohibited in laguna bc the signs at each beach state this. My question is what about a stretch of beach/reef that isn't designated as a protected reserve. For instance, if I were to enter a beach and swim outside of the cove up or down the coast where a designated beach doesn't exist, can I legally harvest scallops? I know that I probably could not bring them back through the reserve where I entered bc the sign doesn't list it as a huntable species. But if I eat the scallop at sea outside of the reserve would this be acceptable?

Re: Laguna scallops

Yes, that is acceptable. Also, if you look carefully there are a few small areas in Laguna that are not part of an SMCA...and you can legally take scallops there. Just make sure that you study the DFG maps and know exactly where each smca begins and ends.
