router and track question
He Everyone
I have built a few guns and they have turned out great. I used my grandfather in laws awesome mill to do the tracks etc. However its getting harder to get over there so I thought I would try it with a router set up instead. so I got a 1/2 inch bit http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053 the one from this kit. I know its a cheap bit but it worked ok on a trigger mech on my last gun. I have been testing it out on some 2x2 before I start on good wood. The problem I am having is I cant get a straight track cut. As I feed the wood into the router it does not mill even and smooth. It seems to grab the wood and pull it then stop and I have to push. The result is the track is not smooth there are little deviations in the areas where it grabbed or I had to push. I am using this router http://www.skilshop.com/skil-1825-2-...d=skil-routers and for a table I am using the xbench with the router kit I did have a piece of an old teak floor board and tried that thinking it just might be due to shit pine 2x2 and it was a little better but still same problem. Is the bit or how can I get a clean track cut. |
