Really good site. The twin mustang was a new one to me. I have flown the T6.

First class collection of photos!

Re: For Military Air Plane Lovers

That's a really nice site. I didn't expect to have flown any of them since they were USAF, but then I forgot that some had Navy/Marine Corps versions.

Before I went to flight school, I jumped out of the C-124 and C-130.

Then the T-34 was the Primary Flight trainer at Navy flight school. Years later when my son went to flight school, they still used the T-34 but with a turbo prop engine. I didn't even realize that the Air Force flew them.

I flew the OV-10, and I didn't realize that the Air Force ever used them either.

And then I flew the F-4B, F-4J, and RF-4B. The F-4 was an aircraft developed by the Navy, then later adopted by the Air Force with its own versions. There were quite a few differences, but one major one was that the Navy/Marine Corps versions had no flight controls in the back seat and the guy in the back was not a pilot, while the Air Force versions had flight controls and a pilot in the back seat.

My cousin flew the RF-4 in the Air Force in the 70's and he was a navigator, not a pilot. Was the weapons officer in the B-58 prior to that. He also did an exchange program with the Navy and flew the Vigilante in the back seat. Said the one little window reminded him of being in the 58’s.

While in the 58’s his team was one of the only 58’s to compete for the Fairchild Trophy (if memory serves me they may have own it?)

Well I'm be darned. Maybe it was just the fighter versions that had flight controls and pilots in the back.

His did have flight controls in the back seat, he was just not a pilot, always a navigator.

On a side note he was one of very few (or only) navigator to be a squadron leader. Retired as a Lt Colonel (actually a full bird, since they always give you guys a bump at retirement)

Maybe in the Air Farce, but not in the Crotch. In fact, if you accepted a promotion, you had to serve a specified time in grade (I forget how long) before you retired, or they took the promotion back.

Bill do you remember flying the T-34. Those things are so slow. When we took off in the one I clean you have to rotate then level off to gain speed before you start your climb. Such a dog.

I don't recall them being that much of a dog, but then its been a while, and it was the first aircraft that I ever flew so I had no basis for comparison.

And I was focused on the instructor screaming at me from the back seat.
