Carbon Fin Help?

Hey Guys,

Looking to buy new fins! I have narrowed it down to 2 after hours of research and talking to a couple of people.

1. Carbonio GFT Carbon
2. C4 Flamer or Falcon.
(both medium stiffness)

I have heard great things about both fins and those are the only 2 I am considering. Unfortunately I wont be able to demo any of these so I thought i'd reach out to you guys for some user reviews.

Things you should know about me.
Been using the Omer Milleniums for over 5 years.
6'3
210 lbs
shoe size 13-14
diving 30'-70' (mostly in 45'-55')

would love to hear what you guys think.

There will be greatly differing opinions, but the Carbon Fiber blades aren't really all that different (other than general stiffness). Pick a soft blade, but the footpocket really determines the fit and also the "tendons" greatly affect the stiffness of the blade. The footpocket is more critical in the grand scheme of things.

Omer Millenium Footpockets are heavy and have stiff "tendons". This will make the fins feel stiffer and will transfer much of your power to the blade. I personally dive with Pathos footpockets which are about 1/3 the weight of the Omer Milleniums (which I've owned). That translates to a significant decrease in extra weight that I have to move with my feet.

If you are going to use the OMER Millenium FP, then I'd pick the softer of the carbon blades. Then I'd find out which company you'd have an easier time to get replacement blades should you lose one. Performance wise, you can't really miss too much.

I have the GFT fins. Love them, tough as hell too. I dont baby them at all. Work beautifully. Mounted on pathos foot pockets they could be worn with or without socks. Im the same size but 185lbs.

Re: Carbon Fin Help?

I used omer milleniums for about 5-6 years. Just got the GFT carbonios. They are awesome. The foot pocket is different, and I had doubts if it would hold. It is lower cut than the omers. But tighter over the top of your foot. And I have a wide foot. They stay just fine. If they didn't, $5 fin keepers would have fixed it. I have no complaints with them. I'm 6'2" 250lbs. Haven't tried the C4's, so I can't say there. Good luck. Let us know what you get, and how you like them.
