Triathlon wetsuit vs Free diving suit

Hi Guys,
Does anybody knows what are the real difference between the triathlon and free diving suits? and can they be used in interchangeably?
Thanks

Re: Triathlon wetsuit vs Free diving suit

Yes and No.

You cannot use a freediving suit for a triathlon. You can use a triathlon wetsuit for freediving but not around anything sharp (wrecks, rocks, jetties, etc)

I use my old tri suits (full sleeve) for spearing but only in the open ocean. Stay off the bottom and be careful not to rub it against the wrecks and you'll be fine.
I find them much more comfortable and they make for easier diving than a freedive suit but will not hold up to any abuse.

Make sure you use a rubber weight belt, the canvas ones will wear through the suit.

Also check the water temps, the tri suit is not designed to retain heat the way a dive suit is. Hope this helps.

The above is all good intel IMO.
(I would never use my Orca Tri suit for spearfishing though)

Re: Triathlon wetsuit vs Free diving suit

Thanks for the reply. I might end up using my triathlon wetsuit for free dive training but I think I'll end up buying a dedicated spearfishing suit.

Triathalon Suits are made of the most flexible and Lightest Foam. They are Strictly Surface Rated and will compress to hell if used for Freediving. For Spearfishing, they'll tear on just about anything you would normally encounter.
