Re: Supreme court upholds Obamacare

21 tax increases in the health-care law costing more than $675 billion over the next 10 years, according to the House Ways and Means Committee. Of those, 12 tax hikes WILL affect families earning less than $250,000 per year, including a “Cadillac tax” on high-cost insurance plans, a tax on insurance providers, and an excise tax on medical device manufacturers.

What Roberts did was play semantics with the constitution..”you can’t put it under the commerce clause..THAT’s unconstitutional…so make it a "tax” and it survives. Now Obama has to explain the biggest tax increase in the nation’s history to a battered electorate. He can‘t deny it’s a tax anymore, he MUST call it a tax. Except he is a spineless weasel and really does not want to even discuss it anymore. But that's not going to happen. This puts it right back on the campaign front burner.

This decision by Roberts will galvanize the conservatives and independents against Obama. There were relying on the SCOTUS to defeat Obamacare, now the only option is to get rid of Obama. Romney just got handed the election. All the RNC HAS TO DO is keep pointing out the healthcare law is the biggest TAX increase in US History and Barry Sotero is finished! The TEA party patriots just got a HUGE vitamin shot.

Real Americans have had enough,

The president saying it wasn't a tax doesn't make it any less constitutional as the verdict today shows.
The president saying it wasnt a tax and now it is being upheld as a tax says a lot. Another lie anyway you look at it.

Re: Supreme court upholds Obamacare

Ruling this a tax issue opens up am whole new avenue to consider.

the current administration has granted over 2000 waivers on the obamacare law.... but... you cannot grant a waiver from paying your TAXES!

since this has been ruled a tax issue and not a general commerce issue, all the waivers given to public and private sector unions cannot stand. It is against the law to give preferred tax treatment to some groups and not others. The equal protection clause will force the unions to be treated the same as everyone else and they will no longer get special treatment. I believe this will drive a wedge between the union rank and file and the union thug bosses.

Re: Supreme court upholds Obamacare

High Court Is Taxing Americans' Patients

President Obama promised to fundamentally transform America--and with the help of the U.S. Supreme Court, he has. In a scenario that few dreamed possible just two months ago, five justices--led by Chief Justice John Roberts--shocked the nation by ruling the President's health care law and its mandates constitutional.

The obvious implication is catastrophic. Our country is now 18 months away from ObamaCare's freedom-crushing, conscience-violating, abortion-funding reality.

Worse, the Court has profoundly changed the relationship between the American people and their elected officials. "Uncle Sam can make you buy anything," Ken Klukowski explains, "at any price, for any reason."

By recasting the mandate as a "tax," the justices have granted Congress unlimited authority to use the IRS to control every aspect of Americans' lives. "Unless something is protected by a specific provision in the Bill of Rights (like free speech or the right to own a gun), the national government could control it."

From now on, the only meaningful limit to the government's power is not the Constitution--but what voters are willing to allow through their representatives. "The practical import of this," Ken explained, "is that Congress can reach anything it wants if it's willing to attach a tax penalty for you not doing it, then the whole thing gets roped in under the taxing clause of the Constitution. This case now elevates the taxing clause over the commerce clause and is the single greatest grant of power to the national government in the U.S. Constitution."

The law is now President Obama's to own--along with the lies he used to justify it. "This is absolutely not a tax increase," he argued in 2009. Of course, the irony is that Congress would have never passed the bill if it had been presented as one.

Then, there was the President's insistence that "No federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place." Today, several pro-life and religious freedom injustices now stand with the Court's blessing, including the abortion subsidies and funding scheme, the contraception-abortion drug mandate, and rationing board.

People, the Constitutional protections and freedoms we once had are gone. Welcome to the United Socialist States of Amerika. We are screwed.

Re: Supreme court upholds Obamacare

you guys are missing the genius of Roberts ruling.

1 he neuters the Democratic/socialist/communist party for all time. By stating that the Commerce clause can only be used to regulated goods that travel though states and can not be used to regulated behavior or to force someone to engage in a behavior..he stopped the Democratic Party and their plans of an all powerful big brother big government.

2. He also states that the federal government cannot coerce states to do anything. Once again stopping the Democratic Party in their tracks.

He saved this country and because of Roberts we will still be a free people.

Now by rewriting Obamacare as a tax he almost guarantees that the Republican will win control of the entire government this November.

Just the fact that Obamacare taxes the equity in everyone’s house at the time of sale will be the death of the Democratic Party.

The way Obamacare collects taxes from everyone is that the IRS will keep your tax refund; will the middle class be pissed???????

How about the massive layoff of workers at retail and small businesses as they cannot afford to have as many employees as they could afford before Obamacare.

How about the steep rise in prices at retail and restaurants to pay for the cost of Obamacare????

Obamacare and with Roberts’ brilliance has killed the Democratic Party for a long time to come.

Re: Supreme court upholds Obamacare

Healthcare reform is needed. The GOP had plenty of time in the past to offer up solutions and didn't.

Hell they were the ones that invented the individual mandate.

This is a huge win for the administration. The GOP even if they win the presidency will not be able to repeal it.

If it wsa such a terrible deal why are insurance companies already initiating some of the mandates early? The insurance companies had quite a bit of say in the crafting. Adding more people to the health insurance pool is good for keeping everyone's rates down.
