Yak dive on the sonoma coast
met up with my buddy Jason O' Donnell for a yak dive. The ocean was nice but did have a little swell from the NW about 4-6ft but very mild wind. We launched the yaks at timber cove and begun are paddle. We had to stay close to shore due to the very thick fog so we did not get lost in it. After awhile it burned off to be a gorgeous sunny day. The water color was nice blue with at firt the vis being about hazy 20ft crystal clear 15. As soon as I got in I could see a monster black whack nailed him and as I am pulling it on in it breaks free dam !!!
No bigy the big blues started schooling and before we knew it we both about 4 real nice one's all about 15-16 inches on the stringer. At this point is time to get picky and start looking for the lings. We worked the area for about 2hrs seeing tons of nice blues and blacks and killer structure and holes but no lings. At this point I am on my way back the yak to call it for this spot and move to another location when I see a nice pinnacle so I decide to make one more dive. I go down and I see a nice horizontal ledge that runs about 6 ft and is about 8 inches high so I glance and with my light and I can see it is a huge ledge with a nice ling laying side ways towards me with a nice rock fish tale hanging out of it's mouth. So I lined and whack !!! nice got my ling for the day. On to the yak and back in to shore we went. I ended the day with a 30 inch 9 pound ling, 1-19 inch black and 4 blue's ranging from 15-16 inches. Jason ended the day with a 20 inch black and 6 nice big blues all around the same size as mine. By the end of the day the wind picked up and the vis did drop to a hazy and cloudy 8ft but if you hunt around there are good spots with vis and the only reason the vis dropped on us is the wind swell. any who that is my ill written dive report. ![]()

Re: Yak dive on the sonoma coast
Cool report Matt, and congrats to Jason too. Dove in some thick Red Tide down here recently, then there was a GWS sighting at LJ Shores. Went shooting at the range with SDspearo instead that day
![]() * I relayed your number to Robin (RCadiz03), a good buddy from down here who lives in The City now.
