| All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective. |

tip advise
got to get my first taste of spearing a few weeks ago. gotta say that i love it and to my wifes dismay. heres the deal i now only have a jbl barbed paralyzer. i had a rock pt breakaway tip that i managed to break on a rock after skipping it off a spadefish. so my question is will my paralyzer work well enough on flounder. i thought about getting a shank extension w/ flopper from ray odor for flounder but since i didnt see the first flounder after 2 different days out didnt wanna waste anymore $

Re: tip advise
if you have that mentality you wont get far. This isn't exactly a cheap sport, so expect to be buying a few of everything. Ray Odor Fish Buster is good. I believe member Jfjf has some for sale or you can go on the ray odor site. At 25 bucks a piece, you cant go wrong.

Re: tip advise

Re: tip advise
flounder are easy with a three prong as long as you just keep them pegged to the bottom until you can swim down there to put your hands on them.

I disagree, that is sort of the beauty of pole spearing. Yes it is an expensive hobby but it doesn't need to be and can be just as much fun. |

Re: tip advise
If you are breaking off tips in the rocks, then yes it will be an expensive sport. Im not trying to get into an argument here, and of course you can make do with very inexpensive items, there is no question about that. But i guess ive bought around 10 or so tips throughout the years... not all from me breaking them, but sometimes you loose them, sometimes they dont work right, and you experiment on another type, some get lent out and never come back. But my cheap ass jbl slip tip is the only one that has lasted over 5 years. Used on multiple guns and pole spears all I have done is replaced the steel cable with dyneema a few times. And sharpen it up with a bench grinder when i accidentally shoot one of those rock fish. Im sure with that one tip and a decent pole spear it could easily be a "one and only" spear for many years to come. And it was only 20 or 30 bucks.
