They're Here!

Was diving a wreck in 60' off Cedar Key this weekend and saw a single lionfish milling around without a care in the world. I have seen them on the MGs but thought we might be spared inshore due to our cold winter temps.

It was no peanut either... he was as big as any I've seen on this coast out deep so I'm assuming he moved in from the grounds.

I already have put together a sting kit that will allow me to heat up wet compresses to help neutralize a sting if I get one. Not looking foward to it but considering how I hunt it is bound to happen sooner or later....

Yep, saw one at the gunsmoke 3 weeks ago. I now bought a stinger and bag. You can sashmi them up right on the boat if you are into sushi.

Re: They're Here!

Got two of them recently. A nice size one in 65 ft and a smaller one in 55ft off Anna Maria. All public numbers.

Started carrying SS Shears to neutralize/trim them underwater.

I've shot a few, good raw with soy sauce, but grilled and blackened there better than hog fish! Next time I'm making ceviche with them.

Re: They're Here!

I saw 3 Sun 7-29 in 80' out of Stump Pass. A buddy of mine saw 6 or 7 on 90' the same day a little further south by Boca Grande. It's just a matter of time till their off the beaches in 30' of water.. Makes me sick..
