Lobstering help in Key Largo

Hey guys, I am staying in Key Largo for the first week of regular season and wondered if I could get some clarification on spearing areas and any guidance on general areas to focus on when lobstering. I have stayed in Key Largo before and have done well with lobstering but would like to spear also. I know you have to be outside the 3 mile line and can't be Pennekamp which covers a pretty good portion of the ocean but I saw some comments on here that made me rethink where it is legal. Any feedback on areas to lobster and spear would be greatly appreciated.

Out of Key Largo you have to be out 6 miles from shore, or 300' deep to spearfish. South of there you have to be out 3 miles from any land. Lobstering check the www.myfwc.com as there are many areas that are off limits.

If you want to spear on the reef your going to have to be south of molasses reef (out of pennekamp) at least 3 miles out from the nearest land and out of any sanctuaries marked with the yellow buoys

Gringo - you should just drive a little south of largo to Tavernier. There is a ramp there and you can spear anywhere outside the 3 mile mark (which is still 20' deep)

Or go North outside the North boundary of Pennekamp and be 3 miles from land. You can run Hawks Channel North to this area, it is about 12-15 miles North of Largo Sound. Quite a run depending where you stay. Were here fr the month of August, contact me and I'll help ya out.

Thanks for all the help. I stayed in tavernier a few times but
Wondering how far the run is from where we are staying. We are staying on the Atlantic side near mile marker 100

Tavernier creek is at mm 90.8.. It looks like pickles reef would be the closest spot for you to jump in with a gun..
