Armed Citizen in TX Stops Shooting Spree and Saves Cop by Making 150+ Yard Shot With

"Stacy raised his gun, fired, and landed one hell of a shot – by his estimate “a good 165 yards” – with a pistol (we do not know the make or caliber at this time). Stacy wasn’t even sure if he could make the shot at that distance: “I hope this magnum bullet’ll hold up, you know, this distance. And sure enough it did and I hit him in the thigh.”"

Now that is what I call effective gun control.

I'd sure like to know what he pulled that shot off with. I mean, I know some guys who's big thing is very long distance shooting with "pistols" . But I use that term very loosely as they're shooting rifles that lack butt stocks. 1200 yard shots and shit.

I highly doubt this was using one of those .

News release from authorities say he used a .357 handgun.

What I really admired about this guy is that when the shooting stopped, the police ordered him to drop the weapon. With no back talk or screaming about his rights, he complied. Handcuffed for 15 or so minutes without a complaint of police brutality or some horrible police state intrusion of this 2nd Amendment rights, no iphone video of how he was being treated.

He understood and all’s well that ends well.

Re: Armed Citizen in TX Stops Shooting Spree and Saves Cop by Making 150+ Yard Shot W

a few weeks ago a guy grabs a woman's purse by my house..as he is running away, my neighbor, a large guy, is leaving my apartment and sees the guy running at him. He hears the lady yelling about the purse and, seeing noe weapon, decided to spear tackle the guy into a parked car.

Neighbor spins the guy, barely conscience, around onto his belly, pulls an arm back and rests his knee in the guys other shoulder blade...cop comes around the corner and draws his gun and orders my neighbor to get on the ground.

Neighbor gets off the perp and is raising his hands and the cop rushes him and pushes him to the ground.

lady catches up, ID's the perp and the cop lets my neighbor go. No thank you, no apology, just walks away.

I yelled to the lady, "hey you should thank this guy, he's the one who got your purse back for you" and she looks confused at me as the cop hands her back the purse.

I was blown away, the cop had no way to think that my neighbor was anything other than assisting in the apprehension of a fleeing felon and yet he treated him like a perp and then even after the facts were clear he handles himself like a jerk.

I know my neighbor will not try to help anyone else any time soon and that is the real shame of it

100 yds with a 6" magnum is easy, punching paper. 165 is pushing things. 100 or 165 in a gunfight is damned impressive!

165 yrds with a 357? I find that hard to believe unless its a specially designed gun for shooting long distances.

4 rounds on target @ 165 yds with a handgun? MUCH better shooting than 99% of the LEOs I've shared range space with, including those using a rifle.

If he's a regular range guy, and aiming center-mass, hitting the thigh is well within a 'reasonable' expectation for 165yds.
Adding the situation factor and stress probably affected his accuracy.

Watched a fellow shooter hitting black at 300yds off-hand!!! with a TC.

Practice, practice, practice, and then, more dry-firing.

Trying to remember if it was Elmer Keith that once dropped a mule deer at just a hair over 400 with a .45 LC . That was before he began pushing the .44 mag as the ultimate law enforcement sidearm.

Didn't know the League of the Blind hired cops.

I think that 'ol boy might be stretching that distance little bit.

Although, with a good gun rest it's possible on the first shot...now doing it again while being fired at?? Uh-uh

even if it was exaggerated by 50yds, a 115yd shot is damn impressive.

at that range it is very hard but not impossible to hit a human sized target. A friends of mine has hit some crazy long shots with his glock .40. if you know your gun and shoot a lot you have a much better chance
