Let me second that. One of those suckers played dead on me, I go to put the stringer back in the kayak and the next thing I know there is a trigger latched onto my rear end. Same day (we really got into some trigger that day), a guy freediving near me had one bite him so hard that it popped blood vessels in his arm (one of those funky bruise/cut looking bites) through his wetsuit. So maybe be a bit more than "a wee bit" because those things, at least in NC/VA, will bite you the first chance they get...and hard.

I'm going to have to try some of y'alls ways of cleaning them, because you make it sound easy. I was taught by an ex-commercial fisherman, but he was on his 7th White Russian of the night by the time he got around to teaching me...so maybe there's my problem.

A 3mm wetsuit is no match for a triggerfish. They are some mean bastards.

Gutshot is easitest to remove the spear and not damage meat, but they will bite you the whole way up.

Headshot will kill'em and no bites, but tough to get the spear out sometimes.

I string them before taking the spear out. They can't bite me with stainless steel between their teeth.

Fizisition tells me that there is as much meat in the head as the rest of the fish. He skins the entire fish, removes the guts, eyes and gills, splits the cavity and stuffs it with stone crab and bakes it.

Yea John same here, I saw a bunch of the Ocean triggers last week but have never messed with them, dont know there food quality.

I do think gray triggers are very good when they get some size to them, like in La. I clean them like catfish trace the outside then pull skin off with pliars, saves your knives.

Just make sure they are BIG. Not worth the effort for the small ones.

Yeah, I have divits all over my 3mm from the little Sh*ts....SteveMc has a funny storey about a inquisitive trigger.

Great eating fish....firm flacky meat....but will dull a fillet knife in a heartbeat.

I always hit the ole' Dexter/Russell on the stone before

Okay! Great. Just so I won't confuse them with another fish; they swim with a funny alternating pattern of their dorsal and anal fins right?

Re: Triggerfish good eating? They ugly bastards. . .

Triggers are a great fish if the day isn't yeilding much because they are nosy little bastards that will come up from the bottom to check you out and stare at you. White meat, great to fry and put in a sammich because they come in fillets about the size of a slice of bread (how convenient!). Pretty much echgoing what has already been said I guess

I shot one through the eyes once and strung it through the holes and when I was putting another fish on the stringer the blind SOB bit me in the arm and swam off the stringer. Blind batard swam headlong into a rock and promtly recieved my knife into his brain. Taught him a lesson in escaping! I had a weird looking bruise/cut there for a few days, my friends thought I visitied a Yugoslavian brothel again!
