Moving to Ireland
So in about 3 months I am moving to Ireland. I have done a bit of research on spearing there including species and size. Having also found out that there is not one spearing shop in the whole country I feel I am going to be rigging and fixing all my own equipment. For this reason I am going big before I get there so I will be set for at least a year.
Here is my list of things I'm planning on getting before I head out. If you can think of anything else I may need please let me know. I don't want to be stuck out of the water waiting for things to be shipped in. I already have a RA 110cm Tuna, stock, and am going to get a RA 90cm Sparid(1x20mm Band) 4 x Extra shafts. 2 for 110 & 2 for 90 2x RA composite reels 15 ft 20mm tubing 20 ft 2mm dyneema 60 ft 2mm mono Wishbone Insertion Tool 2x open muzzles 2x Inflatable Floats 11 Liter 30 Crimps 1x Crimping Tool 2x Extra Knives Various clips and swivels 2x Extra floppers with pins I think thats it. Let me know. Cheers |

Re: Moving to Ireland
I can't help much Gonzo, but you can get in touch with irish spearos and freedivers through the british based forum Deeperblue, which has an Ireland section.
http://forums.deeperblue.net/uk-irel...ng-2008-a.html From what I hear they mostly hunt smaller fish compared to the american catches, such as european bass, pollocks, wrasse, grey mullet et cetera. I guess you RA Tuna will be overkill for this type of hunting, while the Sparid is quite popular among the brits. But anyway you'd better ask the Irish lads... All the best for you trip and experience. |

Re: Moving to Ireland
sell the big gun, buy a 75 cm, it will get more use. a 75 and a 90 would make for a good pair in their hunting conditions.
30 crimps wont last that long, especially hunting around rocks, and crimps are cheap, a couple of boxes wont set you back that much. shipping from scubastore will be cheap, and the staff there are friendly, so stuff like knives ect. are replaceable. rob allen spears are 7mm right?? you could probably get away with a 6mm or 6.5mm with the majority of their fish, smaller fish - smaller holes

Re: Moving to Ireland
Thanks for the info,
I read all the threads on deeperblue. I guess I may just go ahead and get a 75cm aswell. Keep the 110 just incase I need it later on. I've been out on the west coast of Ireland and the vis can be pretty good. Maybe more mono and crimps, and perhaps vary on the spears. I just think the 20mm will be overpower on a lighter spear. Maybe not? Definately not looking forward to the weather, but am excited to explore the new waters. Cheers |

Re: Moving to Ireland
only gun ive shot with a 6mm spear was a 75 cm, it was rigged with a tight band (and i hate pulling back tight bands on such a short gun) but with a single 16mm band, u couldnt see that spear out to the end of the shot, laser accurate also.
