Angry Isn't this messed up?

Ok, just want another opinion because maybe I am frustrated for no reason.
On Tuesday I responded to a thread on here looking for two divers for this tournament to go to the grounds. I got invited after a phone call. They said they had an open spot because someone backed out and had to go out of town so he would not be able to go. I was very thankful and got super excited! I even called back on Wed. just to make sure it was a definite before I spent the money that everyone spends to go to the grounds! All week I was checking gear, testing equipment, re-lining my riffe, buying an extra shaft for the JBL, and overall being incredibly excited.
I went to the dive shop today to pick up the nitrox tanks and the new computer. I was there at 4 o'clock! Just four hours before the captains meeting when my phone rang. It was the guy that wasn't able to go earlier this week. He informed me that now he WAS able to go and so I was no longer invited! He said he already gave a deposit on gas for the boat. So he did not want to lose it, I offered to pay the deposit, but he still said no. I guess the question will you refund my money that I spent all week getting ready to go on this trip was out of the question. I guess the fact that he gave me four hours notice to find another ride was none of his concern, and the fact that he did not even register for this tournament yet because he was not able to go, means he was not out the $85 like other people. Maybe it is just me, but would this frustrate the hell out of you too???

Sounds like an asshole move to me. Hopefully he gets dropped on sand all day. Sorry about your luck. Hope you find a ride.

Re: Isn't this messed up?

Yes I think this is messed up in fact so bad that you should name names. I am sure that once you paid for your part of the fuel then the said party envolved would get his/her deposit back. It should be up to the person that you took the invite from to handle it not the person that has all of a sudden shown back up in the picture to do it. In fact that person should have told his/her friend I am sorry but we have filled your spot there is nothing I can do now. That person should have accepted that and not been so selfish. This same thing happened to my daughter when she moved to Boston but that is another story.

Totally f'd up. If somebody can't commit, you find somebody that can.

You'll find people to dive regularly with dude. Just be consistent and do what you say you're gonna do - it sounds like you did. The good thing is you learned 3 people NOT to go with.

Re: Isn't this messed up?

That's BS, the guy who "gave you his word" should be up right and tell the "off again on again" friend tough luck. I'm so sorry their are those kinds of scum in our sport. But yes you have a right to be pissed, to the point of a public exposure.

Re: Isn't this messed up?

You sure got "shafted" on that deal. You could salvage your entry by diving in the bay for a nice Sheapshead. Heck, sometimes it does not take much of a Sheaphead to compete with 30lb Groupers in the SPO. Good luck and sorry to hear you got such a raw deal.
