go to a cabinet shop that builds counter tops.. get some corian sink cut outs or scraps off color peices should be dirt cheap .. corian cleans easy .. wheather wont hurt it .. wont abssorb slime or odors ..

I've made a few nice cutting boards by laminating hardwood strips together. If you go that way, I recommend Titebond 3 wood glue. Won't soften up with moisture, won't come apart. You'll need access to some bar clamps and probably a wood planer. I guess you could accomplish the planing with a ton of sanding in a pinch. Good luck!
