Re: Most used speargun length

Here in the pacific northwest short guns are king. My go to gun is a 70cm R/A, I have longer guns up to 110-120cm in wood and euro but rarely get to use them. Even if I killed a fish with one of my longer guns I still could have taken that same fish with my 70cm...so why bother.

Re: Most used speargun length

120cm RA
building a 130 enclosed euro though
I much rather a guns classification be mech to muzzle. Id be pissed buying a 130cm gun and it turns out to be a 100 or 110 with 20cm of waste.

Re: Most used speargun length

I understand the concept of band stretch, and yes, it is the best way to measure a gun's power and range (depending on number of, diameter, type [circular/tie in/screw in] and length of bands, + length of wishbones). That information can be ascertained with a quick calculation. I just prefer an overall length measurement when talking about gun length. So, it would be more accurate to have your poll question asking, "What length of band stretch do you prefer?"

Do you get where I'm coming from?

And to answer your poll: I prefer my 57", aka ~145cm overall, aka ~130 cm band stretch gun.

Re: Most used speargun length

I think the correct way to calculate a gun's "caliber" is by band stretch or distance from band slot to the last available spear fin or notch. Calculating by total length is simply not accurate and can cause confusion, but by band stretch, you can pretty much know what kind of power to expect and what kind of range.

I understand. I didn't know that when you say that you have 145cm gun, your bands can strech only 130cm.
When we are talking about guns we are using effective band lenght not overall size (euro guns).

I have 130cm gun, but bands can strech only 102cm. For me it is 100cm gun.

Re: Most used speargun length

120 for clear salt water and 80-90 for murky / freshwater

I don't typically fish in holes, but that's what a polespear is for IMO, amongst other applications.

trying to fit something that is 6+ft long into holes sucks ass a lot of the time, I've not been able to take many fish i found in holes with my poles when a 60 or even 90cm euro would have been cake.

Euro 60-75 or even 90 will do the job.
