Re: Lake Travis Freedive Club

I've been in Austin for a while but haven't done any freshwater diving while I've been here due to drought. What are the regs on spearing fish? Last I recall it was trash fish only... Is that right?

I'm dying to get out now that Travis has some water in it. JDSapp, Let me know when you go out if you want a divin buddy. I'm FII level 1 certified, but a little rusty due to a torn Achilles that benched me since October. All good now though.

Re: Lake Travis Freedive Club

Anyone want to hop in the lake this week/weekend? Winds have been "light" and water level stable for a while now. We might finally get a little vis back, give me a call or PM if interested.

Re: Lake Travis Freedive Club

Hey, I've been dive training off windy point and I never see any fish worth shooting. I'd like to target practice on some trash fish... any suggestions on where to jump in?

I’m still around. Diving won’t be good for another month or so.

Re: Lake Travis Freedive Club

Went out the other weekend. Pretty damn cold but visibility was actually really good. I would say around +15 feet. Didn't think that was possible considering how low it is in the summer time. Didn't see a ton of fish there but we're not the most experienced when it comes to timing. Is it better to go in the morning usually? We also have been trying to setup an underwater fish feeder. Like catfood in a gallon of water with hole poked into it to attract fish. It was tied to a bouy and placed about 10 feet from the bottom. Any tips on attracting more fish with this method? I've seen videos of people doing this in lake travis with more carp than you can believe on it.

Re: Lake Travis Freedive Club

You could try a mineral block, same concept as the gallon jug. I know catfish love pizza dough, but that is worth a shot as well. If you have the time to do an experiment I would get a few different choices, and place 3 or 4 in a area and wait a hour or two then check to see which worked best. For carp/buffalo (bottom feeders) I would place your bait directly on the bottom rather than suspended above it.
