Re: Missing fishermen
Latest:
TEQUESTA, Fla. (AP) — Families hoped for a miracle even as science nagged that one was improbable and rescue crews went into a seventh day of searches Thursday for two teens missing at sea. Though it seemed unlikely a medley of agencies would continue their hunts much longer, the Coast Guard, which is leading the effort, insisted it remained an "active and open" case now focused off the Georgia and South Carolina coastline. Chief Petty Officer Ryan Doss said crews would continue surveying waters from Florida up through South Carolina throughout the day Thursday and overnight into Friday. A determination on plans for beyond that had not been made, but Doss said there were no immediate plans to call the search off since it was believed there was a chance the 14-year-olds, Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, were still alive. I also think divers off Jupiter and the Treaure Coast north should keep their eyes open for clues on the bottom from the capsize event like fishing rods and other gear. I am planning to that when I dive this weekend. Let's keep hope alive a bit longer. Re: Missing fishermen
Mini-season just had about the most divers underwater in two days scouring everything and most everyone had heard of the capsize. I don't think anyone saw anything underwater unfortunately, but those 2 days was alot of U/W coverage.

Re: Missing fishermen
As the search for the missing boys come to an end by the US Coastguard, It is sad but the realization is that these boys will not be found. Without laying blame on anyone since this is a most tragic event and will be remembered for years to come, I would just ask parents that have young teenagers that have a zest for the ocean and fishing and diving and just enjoying the freedom of boating to PLEASE !!!.....make sure the boats they operate are properly equipped with safety gear, a vhf radio or epirb and also a float plan is in place.
My sincere condolences go out to both these families and friends of these boys.

Re: Missing fishermen
I was really pulling for these kids. Still keep hoping to hear that they were rescued every morning when I check the news, but I know chances are slim at this point. This past weekend I was in the West marine on s. Andrews in Ft. Lauderdale looking at EPIRBs /PLBs. This tragedy really made me rethink my safety gear. I currently have 2 Gps, a Vhf, and a nautilus lifeline, but no satellite based locator beacon. The sales guy at West marine said the EPIRBs were flying off the shelf right now. If nothing else this tragedy may keep a lot of other boaters from meeting the same fate. I picked up the handheld ACR PLBs for $260... Cheaper than a cooler. I don't know why I waited this long.
