Not a big fan of Casinos or Lottery. All those boats mentioned were sold at a profit. Not always a big margin but I recouped my money on the vessels.
The 12ft Hypalon inflatable with a 15 hp Evinrude was the cheapest to run.No trailer was needed.Just back up to the ramp and pull it in or out of the pickup bed and go.Ran all day on a 6 gallon tank and planed with 3 guys and freedive gear to spearfish.Ran it all over the Keys, offshore for Dolphin,Peace River and the Everglades on the cheap.
Only boat I lost financially was buying the new Carolina Skiff but I saved a LOT of money on fuel going to a 4 stroke 140 Suzuki versus the 125 2 stroke boat that ate 40 gallons of fuel every trip!We ran from the Hyatt dock in Key West to Marquesas Key and back on 13 gallons with the DLV!Rides and looks like a Whaler so you cant go fast in rough seas but It will bring you back on plane in relative comfort. Also it will run in around 2 ft of water if you like to fish the flats.

My rig - land locked on life support these days. Relegated to river fishin’.
Made a few trailer trips to big water. Always dreaming up a large time to be had.
Trying to resuscitate to its former glory.

Completely rebuilt my 43 year old SeaCraft to better than it former glory. Rebuilt from bow to stern, no wood, lighter and faster than ever.... without a doubt my “dream” boat.

Awesome, Moose! Just pitch a tent and have at it. Plenty of knuckle bustin, no doubt.
I’ve never painted a boat. Do you spray or brush?

The exterior was subbed out and painted with Awlgrip and the cap was rolled with gelcoat and duratech.

Re: Project Boat Discussion: Tips, Ideas, Mistakes...

Kenny, that came out awesome. So I just bought this old classic and expecting delivery in two days.

1965 Bertram 25 Hardtop.

I've been laying out some ideas on how I want to set her up. The setup probably looks familiar. I think I need to put a livewell somewhere, just for potential resale and the occasional hook and line days. But otherwise I'm going to give the Bertram purist a heart attack as, not only bracketed outboards, but a pilot house. Though I will try to make the pilot house resemble the B25 flybridge model. I'd like a complete wraparound windshield to open it up for family and sand bar days.

I'm also on the fence with twin 150's or a single 300. My goal is to be able to venture well offshore, so I'm leaning toward the twins, but then there's weight and speed issues. Of course the last thing you want is a summer storm to roll up on you with a dead engine and 100 miles offshore.

Well, I've got plenty of time to think about that as I have a lot of work to do in the coming months.

Very cool, Cuzz! Bet that boat is older than you. I’m sure you’ll give it a new lease on life.

Re: Project Boat Discussion: Tips, Ideas, Mistakes...

Thanks fellas. I'm looking forward to this challenge and hope to bring her back to life looking like a brand new boat.

I will definitely document the progress on here.

She's definitely older than me. I don't believe I was even a thought at that time. Haha

Nice, James - I'd defeinitely go with the twin 150s. Loving the layout and options!

James, I like the the hull as a friend built one not to long ago but I think it was a 27-28’. Remember, weight is king and drives the ability effectively haul all the gear your plan includes. Lite is rite.
