Help with matching Foot pockets w/ carbons
I'm struggling finding some information on this.
I had purchased some JBL carbon blades and foot pockets. Once the blades failed, I did not want to try another pair and requested a refund. Thankfully, I at least got the refund on the blades but they are sending me the foot pockets back. I am ordering the C4 red falcon HT's (or red fox's, once I find what the difference is other than blade angles and I think the Red fox are made specifically for the stingray foot pockets.. So if you know, let me know. There is about $65 increase with the RED fox's blades). Anyways, it looks like the C4 water rails go pretty far up the blade.. The JBL pockets have a long rail on them as well. I did like how these foot pockets fit but if they won't work with the blades I want, then I'll need to go try on some other foot pockets and just add these jbl foot pockets to my "extra shit I'll probably never use" box. Please let me know. This is my first time trying to mix foot pockets and carbon blades... Educate me please. Mucho Mahalos! |

This is when you go into your local dive shop and support them..

Re: Help with matching Foot pockets w/ carbons
I always try that first. I've tried ordering my pathos sniper roller through them since they are an authorized dealer for Hawaii, they didn't carry it and wouldn't order it. I tried buying, then ordering my C4 blades through them, no go. I always support my local shop first.... however if I want something specific and they don't carry it, they won't order it, then at least I gave a valid attempt.
For this situation though, I have the JBL foot pockets now by default from the broken carbons ordeal.. These are $110 foot pockets (bent me over!). So ideally they are my first choice. My question is will they work (or can be made to work without being ghetto) with the C4 Red Falcon HT blades I purchased? If they won't work, yes I'll be going in my local shop to fit new stingray foot pockets and adding these other ones to my bag of shit I'll likely never use again.. I knew I wanted these C4 fins and knew there was a chance I would be sidelining the JBL foot pockets if they don't work. Just figured I would ask if anyone had experience with this combination. I don't settle with what the local shop has in stock though unless it's what I wanted or what fits. I wish I did have a local shop that would order what I want but shipping to an island can be a pain and is probably why they don't do it for people. (especially "gun" related parts from another country.... like a trigger from Italy can take over a month even if you pay the $30 faster shipping. I'm still waiting on my Pathos double roller trigger upgrade from Ermes cause it's stuck in customs in Miami and it's been almost 3 weeks. Not Ermes fault at all... just something you have to deal with sometimes.) |

Re: Help with matching Foot pockets w/ carbons
I don’t have direct experience with JBL footpockets, but my guess is they can be fitted with C4 blades. If the blades come without pre-drilled holes, then drill holes to match the foot pockets. However if the blades are pre-drilled, then drill additional holes in the foot pockets to match the blades. You can bind them together with a zip-tie for each pocket. Don’t be afraid to cut the tendons shorter if needed, or even if just preferred. The C4 blades will be more reactive if less tendon to dampen their flex.
