Re: Gut Nuggets

Shot an 11 lb ling last weekend and she had a cabezon in her stomach. In the cabezon's stomach there was roe and a little crab. Kinda cool to see the food chain in action.

That's awesome Ryan!!! Nice fish too dude!!

Off topic side story: Couple years ago I was diving with fuzz and a young friend...towards the end of the day I found a nice 35+ inch Ling holed up...called the young guy over and fuzz and I helped guide him down to the hole to shoot it...he shot it right in the mouth and the shaft speared the whole dead cabbie that was in her throat and when he pulled the shaft out all that he had was this rotting cabbie that looked just like yours on his shaft.

Luckily the Ling didn't move and a few drops later he was able to get her.

Sincerely,

Jim

Yeah, all bony fish have them to help with orientation in water column (fish that lay on bottom like Lings have much smaller ones than fish that suspend like WSB, Stripers, Verms etc) and they are in the "bubble" right where the spine meets the head...

I just like collecting them...

Jim

Re: Gut Nuggets

Thanks man same to you! That Verm is incredible. Interesting story too, I guess he learned not to aim for the mouth of a holed up Ling. I never thought that could happen.

Slamson, that was sweet. Thanks for sharing.

Jim, crazy. Bet the ling felt like it dodged a bullet, until it didn't. Ha!

Re: Gut Nuggets

Have found baby rockfish inside tuna we caught on H&L many times.

Filleted a customers' YT from a kelp paddy once, had a 2lb marlin in it's stomach!

Other than that, have found rockfish with all manner of weird fish in them. Makes you wonder; sardines don't swim around 650ft down, so how did we catch cows back in the day with sardines in them??!!! Maybe they come up slowly in the black of night and hunt them, I dunno.

That's really cool Jim. I like how you dig out the stones of other fish aside from wsb. The striper stones looke like fairy wings
