Re: Mercruiser mechanic

Last time i ran it it ran like a dream, i changed the ignition coil recently and had it tuned up. Now I have a pretty severe oil leak. Both motor and gear lube oil. I cant see where it is coming from, I just recieved an oil leak kit in the mail which uses dye and flourescent light to find the leak. Yeah Brad, this is the boat I traded. I hope its a hose or something.

Re: Mercruiser mechanic

that would be very strange to lose a hose/seal on both the engine oil and the lower unit reservoir. they are two seperate enites entirely.

engine oil could be rear main. i doubt it though.

on the lower unit there is a plastic piece that connects the resivor to the transom assembly and then to the lower unit. SOMETIMES when we would pull a engine it would snap. very cheap piece. i also doubt it though.

do a dye test and identify where the leak/s are coming from first.

besides the oil in the bildge what other symptoms is the engine producing?
pressure, temp? why the coil replacement?

this are a lot to take in but you will be back to normal before you know it.

when i found your pics i also noticed you did not have a drive shower. cheap way of keeping your lower unit cool while running for extended periods. not necessary but will help in the long run. $100.00

Re: Mercruiser mechanic

i had alot of ignition issues, i changed the coil and the knock module. After that it ran great. The alarm went off on one of my trips, trying to find out why, i saw that both motor oil and gear lube resovior were very low. Pressure and temp guages were fine. I will have to look up the drive shower. Thanks alot man, much appreciated. I will keep you posted.
