Ft Pierce bugs
Well we ended up with 1 bug for mini season. Had to release about 8 egg bearing ones, a few of which were nice 5+ pounders.
We dove 80 ft, 50 ft, and 15 ft off the beach I'm guessing the "second" reef. Discouraging to say the least. People seemed to have done very well up in Sebastian and down at Pecks Lake in Stuart. We got checked by Sheriff coming in Ft Pierce Inlet and he said a lot of zero's and the highest he saw was 5. At the ramp some fellow divers had similar situation as us with only 1-4 lobsters and lots of egg bearing ones. Similar results last few years out of Ft Pierce. It might be time to skip mini and wait till reg season or go up to Sebastien. Maybe we should of hit the 1st reef with all the brownie lungs? I dunno, I'm discouraged and open to any advice because of the result but very happy with the diving conditions. A 2 ft chop on the surface but we had some excellent viz especially out at 80 ft, small thermocline, and saw a ton of reef life (except for shootable fish, no groupers, a few decent snappers and a ton of tiny ones) and I saw the biggest goliath of all time which was interesting too see. Every year I always think what I could have done differently. Perhaps I should of completed 2 deep dives and called it a day? Or just work the inshore beach area all morning? Of course we 'should' have scouted the week prior but had no chance to get out there. Anyways, happy hunting and good luck to anyone going out today. |

Re: Ft Pierce bugs
Spend more time scouting and avoid direct public numbers

Re: Ft Pierce bugs
Yea gotta up my scouting game. We went out 2 weeks ago and saw a few in 50 ft buy got chased away by a storm so never checked inshore.
Yea we did not go to the public numbers, although they can be some nice dives with a lots of reef life |
