It truelly is an ADDICTION !!!!

I gotta stay off CRAIGSLIST....

As people who know me are aware, I truly LOVE Boston Whaler REVENGEs. I have looked at almost every one that has been for Sale within 100 miles of where I live. Its amazing what some people think their Whalers are worth. But every now and then I find a Jewel.

I found this one in MARYLAND! Beautiful condition, trailer kept, fresh water used, ETEC motor with only 130 hours !!!!! and for sale for such a reasonable price, I could even have it shipped to California and it was still (to me) a Great Deal.

I now own THREE Whalers and TWO trailers.

Understandable, that's a nice hull.

Hey so what’s the story on the Revenge hull? I don’t see a lot of them. It has a different look to it. How’s the ride?

Re: It truelly is an ADDICTION !!!!

I love mine. Its a flat bottom and planes real quick. Very stable too so if you have any sea sickness issues its great for a small boat. As with all boats it does have some draw backs. It can be a rough ride in short interval seas. Its a dry boat though especially with the set up I have. Been out to most of the Islands with it and felt safe, SCI, SBI, CAT, Cruz, Rosa etc. Easy to maintain too. Good with 3 guys 4 is doable but a little crowded.

That's a really nice looking boat. Looks like you've got yours dialed. I looked them up, looks like they came in a 19 and a 22'? Sounds like a nice dive platform.

Re: It truelly is an ADDICTION !!!!

...My first two( commercial abalone diving) boats were a 16' and later, a 22' Whaler. Slept in a sleeping bag on top of bags of abs on the 16'er. Positives: Very fast with only moderate hp engines, as they are a sandwich hull with buoyant foam in the middle; center console lets you fish all sides; will hold a lot of catch; even older Whalers hold their value and are easy to sell.....Negatives: No cabin makes for a rough, wet ride in choppy seas (wore a wetsuit and face mask on numerous returns home); thin hull is very difficult to repair if you punch a hole or get a crack (as I found out after bouncing off a round steel buoy at Avalon in pitch black conditions);if water leaks into the foam, it can gain a lot of weight and take months to drain and dry out; the light weight causes the boat to bounce high when the swells are close together, creating a fair share of bad back issues; the stern can develop cracks on each side of the engine mounts if overpowered or rammed thru big swells..A good coastal boat and fair island setup for good weather conditions...
....Once, riding down the face of 7' N/W swells like a surf board; coming in from the west end of Catalina with 30 dozen abs; I was doing 40 mph and made it home into the Federal breakwater in a half hour....However, switching over to a cabin style boat, as in, a Parker; is like night and day....no cold, wet, windy trips anymore and a bunk for my afternoon naps while anchor boy runs the boat!

Re: It truelly is an ADDICTION !!!!

Hi Guys
Scott from Santa Barbara here. I got a welcraft V20 and my inboard just went out. So I’m shopping the 10 k range of boats and narrowing my looking for skipjack 20 open not Flybridge

Curious on the out of town market. How you go about knowing what you are getting without seeing it. and setting up shipping to get it here.

Can you add any info on that ?

Read a lot on the revenge on the whaler forums and everyone reported they pound like a bastard child. I’m not trying to be disrespectful but I do think they’re veryyyy ugly and dated hulls, my apologies to anyone offended. Just an opinion on them after doing many hours of research on those old school whaler forums

Re: It truelly is an ADDICTION !!!!

Regarding Scott's questions: Buying without seeing is a recipe for disaster...lots of storm damaged boats out there with cosmetic fix-overs….That said, guys who buy that way, usually have a local mechanic or boat surveyor do a close exam of the boat...shippers are an iffy proposition and require some online research for the state you buy the boat in...most work out ok from what I have read but, a written agreement listing everything that could happen would be a good idea: who pays for broken parts enroute (axles, flat tires, etc)...some of the "shippers" are simply good ole boys with a pickup truck and for a couple thousand will hook it up and away they go...hopefully, not to Mexico.....again, most I have read about end up working out o.k. Me...I would fly back, look at the boat, close the deal and rent a U-haul pickup and head back for sunny CA with my new bargain....sometimes, some telephone calls back and forth will give you a hint on whether the seller is honest or a hustler dumping a mess on you...Most important of all is an inspection of the trailer...Are the bearings, tires and axles up to a 2,000 mile plus trip? Will it be insured enroute and who is responsible if there is an accident, God forbid, with an injury or death involved....insurance to protect you and your assets should always be numero uno on the list of "To Do" items...

That sure hasnt been my experience. 42 years and six different outboards with the same boat and hull and it couldnt have been more perfect for the type of diving we do. Ive been out there in all types of weather and its always gotten us back to the dock safely. I wouldnt have purchased 3 of them otherwise.
