A montage of some of my recent dives off NPR and Clearwater, to include my Hammerhead encounter and hail mary grouper shots.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

I went out yesterday off of Anclote. No viz from 30 - 65 ft. Seas were 5-7ft in the morning and then 3-4 on the way in with huge swells all day. Had some friends who had relatives in town and they wanted to go because it was there only chance during their stay.

Thanks Hog Hunter!! I was in a similar situation but pulled the plug and decided not to go. Second guessed myself all day. Looks like it ended up being a good call.

They did not cancel the Gene Cloud tourney, so we tried to go out, reef balls off anna maria in 15', no vis, 3M reef N in 30', no viz, could not even see the bottom once you hit it. We tried, no joy....

Question to the group, based on the experience of the folks here, this week the waves are laying down in the Gulf, but after the week we just had, what are the odds that visibility will return?

I would think that we should have shootable vis by the weekend up off Tarpon Springs. We're hoping to get out Friday so I'll try to post a report for those who are getting out this weekend.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

We're headed out tomorrow. I'm not sure the waves are having as much of an impact as the rain, heat and pollution. Plan is to run until we find blue water. Best guess, 30-40 miles, 80 fsw.

All the reports I've read is zero viz out to 60 fsw. Haven't heard any reports for deeper. Gonna find out though.

All that rain run off has to go somewhere. Out to the GOM during out going tide !!!! Even finally reaching blue water on top is no guarantee on good bottom vis.. You can always jump in. At least it's summer now. Or lower a video camera. Looking forward to the upcoming reports.

We are planning on going Sunday so I am looking forward to your report. It’s going to be very calm all this week so hopefully the vis will return to normal.

30 on the oncoming tide off Anclote. A dirty 10 on the outgoing. Water is nasty along the intercoastal.
