Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
Recently caught grey (mangrove) snapper could be new All-Tackle record Angler Tim Champagne caught what could become the biggest grey snapper (Lutjanus griseus) ever recorded by the IGFA. Champagne caught the massive 8.45 kg (18 lb 10 oz) grey snapper - commonly referred to as mangrove snapper - on July 22nd while fishing out of Cocodrie, Louisiana aboard the M/V Showtime, captained by Andre Boudreaux. After crushing the live croaker he was fishing, Champagne needed approximately 5 minutes to subdue the potential World Record. If approved, this mammoth mangrove snapper will replace the existing record, which has stood at 7.71 kg (17 lb) since 1992. https://www.igfa.org/Fish/World-Record-News.aspx |

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
Hopefully they will ensure this is not a hybrid. Current Texas record is 26#, but I think there are many fish out here that are grey/cubera hybrids.
Great catch, though! http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/...&browse=Submit |

That's a monsta snap!
That's a hell of a snap for the intracoastal! My biggest was a 23" while fishing for snook at night on the Skyway bridge artificial spanning Tampa Bay. It fought way better than the 32" Snook I caught that nite.

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
That's a 17lb terrier in the photo I posted, with a lot of extra hair. I don't think the fish was more than a couple of pounds behind it

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
Sorry but here is the BIGGEST MANGO EVER. Shot by my good friend, Bill Crawford, this fish was confirmed to be a mangrove by biologist at LSU but the IUSA refused to recognize it instead dubbing it a mangrove/cubera hybrid with no evidence to back their claim.

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
RIGDVR, how much did your buddies fish weigh? I have the Texas Record for all "other Methods" and it was confirmed by biologists and weighed about 26.2lbs that is easily verifiable...
http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/...&browse=Submit In hindsight with the 100 or so Cubera I have shot I am not sold that it wasnt a cubera but either way I have the Texas Record as confirmed by 2 biologists... OWS, that fish looks great and maybe it is really a Grey!!!! Looks like it doesnt have the same distinct features as the Cubera. |

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
There is a vomerine tooth patch in the tops of there mouths. The Cubera have a triangle where as the Greys have a arrow or vice versa....

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
We know all about the patch. This was confirmed mango by state biologists...many. IUSA chose not to recognize and created a new hybrid category for it.

Re: Biggest Mangrove Snapper Ever?
29.5 lbs. on the IUSA website as hybrid. "Easily verified" by the state as not a hybrid.
