Moving to Crystal River
I'm moving to Crystal River this Friday. I'm getting discouraged about the spearing. Here in the Destin area we shoot a ton of sheepshead and mangroves around boat docks in the bay and harbor. I'm guessing there little to no inshore spearing there? Went on a manatee tour a week ago and the sheepies were everywhere! It was killing me being in the water without a gun. So do I have to drive to the Tampa area for any decent shore spearing?

Time to get a boat... or a friend with one. Unfortunately the shore diving here requires only deck boots and a gig. The good news is the spearfishing is fantastic farther out. Once you get to know the place you will be good.

Thanks everyone. How about Tampa area? I've seen videos of some sheepies around docks and bridges in that area?

Re: Moving to Crystal River
You can find folks to tag along with to get out. I spent just shy of 2 years up there and had not 1 number to point to on my first trip. I ended up with a solid book of coordinates, that area is very unique, you will enjoy once you get offshore. Long boat rides but worth it. Not too many areas where you can get honest 20lb+ gags in 30ft.
