Hey John Paul, tell me more about how this works. Which function is this, the True color, surface current, or the chlorophyl report? Does it come with the yellow and red outlines and show them moving so you can predict where it may go each day before you get out? I get my viz info by checking in with some of the cattle boats, reading the current, and guessing which way to run. I will man whore Tony out to a hundred fat chicks for one dollar each if this rip chart is worth it.

What I showed was the True Color. I made the outlines, you will have to learn what colors are clear where because the base map behind makes a difference on the overlay. I almost never look at chlorophyll as true color is more applicable for us in the keys but in dead summer when the water is extremely hot I will look at it for Gulf diving. I use the Sea Surface temps a lot and Altimetry during wahoo season.

Sorry I took a while to get back to you. If I have time later I will show more examples.

Vis was about 1 foot bay and ocean. 3-5 foot seas blowing about 15 knots. Going out to some bay spots tom will let you know if anything changes.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

I fished Marathon on 12/19 with saf who is in town with his family for Christmas. Vis was at least 50 feet. We got our grouper, a mangrove and mutton. We saw a few small hogs and only two small lobsters on the reefs. The water is cool, but 3mm suits were fine for us.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

I fished marathon again yesterday and vis was excellent on the outer reef in the 40' or so we were fishing. Nearshore was murkier, 15'', but we were there on an outgoing tide so i would imagine that was the reason. I only saw one small black so that part of our plan was foiled, but we brought in a mixed bag of hog, mangrove, yellow jack, porgy and margate. Happy new years everyone!

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

Viz was 35-40' on Thurs, definitely better yesterday (7/3). Go outside of hawk channel and find reefs to dive. We did well on the couple hours we were there before trying rod and reel for the kids. Picked up a grouper, a couple hogfish, and a mangrove. Provided dinner for us and all the kids with us. We did gyotaku prints of them as well which was cool for the kids.
Marine reports have been accurate with wave information, 2.5'. Fishing traffic was surprisingly low, but the sandbar on Sombrero key was busy.
My pics are too large to upload so I'll do that when we get back home.
Happy Hunting!

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

Does anyone have a current report for vis on Delta Shoal and anything for the gulf side? I've got a buddy down there spearing right now and am trying to help direct him around since he is new to the sport. I'll be headed down from 7/25-8/1 for mini season for the first time in a few years and will try to post some updates on vis/how we do.

Vis has been no better then 15' for us the past few days. We haven't been in anything over 20' though.

How are things down there in Marathon right now? Coming down Aug 22-29 with 8 other divers, 2 boats - looking to have a blast, get lots of fish and lobster (7 of these people have never been to the Keys, and I'm hoping to show them a good time.)
