Re: what should i get?
For 200 you have a few options. 1) Get pretty poor quality equipment, but both a gun and fins. 2) get a decent speargun, but hold off on the fins 3) get pretty nice fins but no gun.
Unfortunately, the sport is expensive and that is a relatively low budget for both fins and a gun. If you dont have anything currently then I'd suggest a pole spear and just a cheap pair of fins and save up until you can afford a nicer version of the two. Mako Spearguns makes some quality equipment that you can obtain for under 200, if you're going the route of only buying one of the two things you want. |

Re: what should i get?
Maybe I will go with the gun. Does anyone know where I could get a good pair of fins for a decent price after I save up some more money? I have used a pole pear a while and want to upgrade to a gun.

Re: what should i get?
I think I will go with the mako gun and fins. Are the non removable blade fins from mako ok or are the removable Blades worth paying for?

Re: what should i get?
Do yourself a favor and check-out the Evolution^2 America's #1 Selling Railgun. No other company sells more railguns in the US than HammerHead.
Why? The HammerHead E^2 is the 2012 model while all other speargun handle designs are from the '00s. Comfortable ergonomic handle, keeps your wrist in a strong neutral position (try punching someone's face with your wrist bent, your break your wrist not his face). Stainless Steel? what's above your shaft? If you don't have stainless or another metal above your shaft, over time you will wear down the plastic and your shaft can "jump" the sear. Look for stainless above, below, and on both side of the shaft. Did we say Accuracy? HammerHead Spearguns are tops in accuracy because they keep your wrists stong, clean lines of sight, and have the right shaft and band combos right off the shelf. Customer Service? What can be better if your local dive shop stocks the spearguns, shaft, bands, and every other consumable. www.HammerHeadSpearguns.com Hammerhead Evolution E2 Railgun Speargun Review - YouTube |

Probably a good starter gun as long as you don't overpower it and it's on sale for $200. I considered getting one and changing the shaft, and changing to two 14mm bands with dyneema wishbones. I still might get a 95cm some day as a lighter/quieter reef gun. I really like my Mako, but it feels a bit overgunned for most of what I shoot. |
