Those are good looking fillets. So the halibuts are around... I just don't know how to look for them.

Thanks for the advice. I have already been doing that, so hopefully it will pay off. I LOVE to eat halibut.

Exactly how I got this one!! Two eyes and the jaw showing. LOVE it when you can see teeth sticking out of the mouth-you just KNOW there is a nice one there!! When hunting flatties, you gotta commit-no half assed glancing around at bait, bugs, fish yada yada. Just think about how slow you have to go to distinguish a pair of eyeballs and a jawline from all the other bottom features! I am like a drone hovering above the bottom, and the tips of my flippers are the propellers!

Completely agree ...! and... the most exhausted you may likely get spearfishing isn't from kicking around for any other game fish, but, from the complete and intense concentration from being committed to the hunt and how tedious, slow and purposeful the scanning of the bottom is. It's tiring, but is also what makes Hali-hunting the most fun (and sometimes the most cold since your moving so slow and not building up body heat.) Good news: It gets easier with [successful] experience though.*
(*Disclaimer: I know a few dudes who have put in the time with a goose-egg result: So, like your favorite pick-up line... Results may vary).

I like that ghettotaku on the wall behind you. I'll likely steal that idea

Re: Storm Flatty

Ha ha.... can't take the credit for that piece of Picasso/Dali mastery. That'd be Zaque "the Destroyer" and his [w]holly family Hali body count.
Definitely an interesting backdrop though.

Re: Storm Flatty

John I was going up through Malibu a week.5 ago and could have sworn I drove right by your place. I was sitting in traffic and recognized the entryway from that wild goose chase you put on for the gun you were giving away. What a nice place to live.
