Re: Bermuda
Anywhere from 12 to 60 feet. Depends really on what your trying to go after.
Wish I could help you out Emily, up in the states at school until Dec 18. There must be some people around the Bio Station that go out or at least could point you in the right direction. |

Re: Bermuda
If you can't find someone with a boat, I rented a skiff a few years ago pretty cheap. Also might look into jetski rentals.

Re: Bermuda
Hey All,
I'm heading to the island in less than a week and am really hoping to spearfish while there. I just graduated from college and spending a week on the island. Is there any chance an outfit around that rents out gear? It might be a stretch, but if someone is heading out to spearfish or fish between between July 24-31st, I would be willing to pick up the bill for the gas and beer. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Cheers, Davide Gill |

Re: Bermuda
I was wondering if it would be legal to swim a mile offshore spearfish and the swim back in.

Re: Bermuda
I would certainly not suggest it with all of the boat traffic. You would be a sitting duck to get hit.

Re: Bermuda
About the light pole spear, I've played around with putting small steel shafts inside of the front section on the 2 piece spears I make for a hobby. It seems that perhaps a bunch of small steel shot that would roll inside the shaft would work like a dead blow hammer on impact. That is if everything was set up right. Usually the downward angle of the spear would get the balls rolling. Give it some thought.

Re: Bermuda
Hello all. I just arrived at Bios and I was wondering if you guys had a good website that had all the minimum size limits on fish. I know the general rule of freediving only, 1 mile offshore, and polespear only. This leads me to my second question which is do you know a good place I can pick up a pole spear? Also if you guys are heading out anytime between now and dec 10 I would love to join and of course would chip in for gas, lunch, beer, etc.

Re: Bermuda
As of September 1, a permit for spearfishing is now required. Its $125 and available at Environmental Protection located at the Botanical Gardens (http://www.communityed.gov.bm/portal...shing_ad_0.pdf). They will provide you with all relevant regulations including size and bag limits.
As for a place to find a pole spear, Makin' Waves, Flybridge Tackle, or the dive shop located in Washington Mall is you best bet. Ask around and you should be able to find a ride out. Its also lobster season so there should be plenty of opportunities to get a ride out. If your having trouble getting out or have any questions, feel free to post or message me. |

Stoked to see a Bermuda thread on here! awesome pics bermuda hunter, don't think we've met but i know some of the other people in your photos.
here is a video of a world record margate in bermuda that i came across the other day, must be the same record posted by rumblefish. that black margate surely could have been a record! http://www.iusarecords.com/display_record.php?id=479 i really think we need to start recording national pole spear records |

Re: Bermuda
Hey guys,
I have been on this forum for a while now, but dunno how i have missed this thread! Ambrose, if that is a margate the current record is at 20lbs, and that was caught in bermuda, so i0t might not hurt to submit that! In regards to other posts i have seen about people wanting to get out while they are here just hit me up and we can get out! I work nights and have most days free and am going out on the water, even more so now that lobster season is in. All is ask for is to pitch gas money. best way to contact me would be via email @ jadams_1986@hotmail.com ps. nice pic stein! |
