Re: diving tomorro to nite etc

Well got out.not the best spot but can be gd in spring.Well there is a two ft jump up to bridge.vis was okay at low tide. And there was nothing nothing not even a bergal. So made a grab for some mussels.
Forgot a net bag so a walk back to the car.Grabbed my duffel bag.Made swimming fun.
Some guys have been asking what ya need to dive around here.Well this was a minium.
5.5 top 3mm bottom
90cm gun
macho yellow fins work well in any thing if ya weight ya self perfectly
I been slackin a month off and a 1.5 hour work out yesterday so grabbed the macho fins LOL
13 pounds there was a time I dove around here with 27 lbs
Best part was no boats no crybabys no divers.
Saw 5 seals when I was done
well take ya time getting out I like the place to my self

See ya in the water Dave

Re: diving tomorro

hey Kevin gd to see ya its been years since I seen ya in the dive shop

Also them gloves guys are the best I have wore yet .
There surfing gloves Glued and stitched INSIDE AND OUT .Real gd stuff I bought a bunch of stuff from that brand I think there gear is way better than divers gloves and socks.
I have tried so many different gloves and socks and these are called dry fit.I will look up the brand
sizing it tough so try at the surf shop.expensive but worth every penny.
Almost done cleaning mussels.

Re: diving tomorro

My hands and feet get cold easy.My hands are a bit big for my size. These are a xlarge 3mm they are called drylock 3.0 thermocarbon made by XCEL.THE 5mm xlarge I cold not squeeze my hand into. These seemed warm enough
They are shaped and curved like a hand also.
There gear seems to be built to last and warm.Well the only guys braving the water in the north east all winter are surfers and they seem to like XCEL
Besides a few polar bears who dive the quarry.
Im interested in there suits but at 500 plus dollars not sure I want to find out.Plus I have two suits now that are not to old.
You can buy two pairs of gloves another brand for the price but they wont be like these. Dave

Not to thread jack but I just picked up a really nice 3/2 excel suit for $150 off of whisky militia.com they have some good deals. Just need to check often or have the app. I've had a few excel suits over the years for surfing and they last. I have a nice pair of 5mm booties from them too.

Re: diving tomorro

Dropped into a North shore spot 2 weeks ago and saw nothing but oodles of skimmers that had been dredged by sandy. I had hoped to get some sea snails but they weren't in yet. I'm gonna hit my favorite North shore spot this weekend and see if the Bass have made it into the channels.

Re: diving tomorro

Thanks for the report Dave! The winds have been howling so there's no point jumping in with the water temps still so cold. Gonna focus on getting gear ready.. Maybe go for a paddle if the winds die down
Dive safe -jimmy

Re: diving tomorro

Dave, how big do those mussels have to be to make them worth while? and how do you process/clean them before cooking?

I've pulled the big razor clams out of the gsb...delicious, abundant, but man, they are a pain to clean from all the mud!
