Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
It would be interesting to find out what an average freediving member of this forum personal best is...my max depth was about 50ft and about 2min underwater ( 3'45" was my breath holding record outside the water)...Never really trained to improve that...

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
2:17 @ 60 ft. I average about 1:45-2:00 unless I'm hunting deeper in the 80-100' range. Those are 1:30-1:45 usually

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
Just got a dive watch so I'll chime in once I know. I agree this would be cool to see.

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
I hunt at 60ft, around 1:45 total dive time. I can dive a little deeper than that.

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
One thing I have found out working with some record holder freedivers lately is that while technique and time at depth makes a big difference, what you can do relaxed on a line or static in a pool doesn't equate to being able to do that spearing when tired and rushed. I have been a 70' 1:15 all day diver for 40 years. MPB is 103' for 1:56 and a 5:45 static in pool. Now I spear safer but little deeper. Time in the water, being relaxed as possible for circumstances and good safety protocal is what I try to maintain.

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
^^ LOL ^^ I think Kyle said it best with this from another thread:
"In the end though bottom times are completely meaningless if you don't know what to do with it. It's the reason why you see some amazing freedivers who can't shoot shit. A guy with let's say Richard Baltas skills and 1:00 dives will make someone with a 3:00 bottom time and mediocre skills look really really bad at weigh in lol " Once people realize this and stop worry about how deep and long they can dive, they can move to "the next level" (I HATE THAT ****ING STATEMENT) in freedive spearfishing. That's why old guys kick young guys butt all the time. |

I agree bottom times arnt everything just because you can doesn't mean that that is where the fish are most of my spearing is done in less than 60 ft of water and under 2 min bottom times

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
My deepest was 82 ft. Static time of 3:42 and bottom times average about 1:15-:1:30 at around 50ft which is my comfort zone to fish in.

30' for about 30sec with a 45sec static but I did unwrap my anchor chain in 100' from a barge once, wearing splitfins.

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
Kylo1597 you do not suck ...you are a pro...By the way how many people actually train to improve underwater time?..as far as depth goes it is very often a function of underwater time...as long as you know how to efficiently perform pressure equalizing...but many people just can not do it since the pain in inner ear becomes unbearable....and how often do you dive...only vacations or you close enough to the water that you can do it all year along ( the lucky ones)

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
A minute to 1:30 is plenty of time to kill fish. Most times I hunt I never stay down longer than 2. That just for my own safety and for the guys up top to know hey something is wrong of time lapse 2:20. If I was comfortable to hunt in 100 ft of water that rule of thumb would change. For obvious reasons. Im not too keen on pushing my limits.

Re: Your Max Freediving Depth and Underwater Time
I only get to hunt once a month on average, sometimes less.
