Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Hit it today with a buddy. Our grand plans of diving North Bu were squashed by 3> viz and 5< swells. However, undeterred, we headed to South Bu and were treated to 10-15 foot in most places. It closed pretty quickly on the back side of high tide though. Until this swell lays down, I'm staying south of Point Dume.

Thanks for the report.

Sounds like the Fathomiers club dive at County Line on Sunday is going to be another tough one. Come by and dive with us if any of you guys are up to it. Starts at 8a, weigh in on the beach at 1:30p SHARP.

I was out at Leo today with the family. I was able to sneak in a 1 1/2 hour dive. Vis was poor at best, id say 3 - 5, No current, and little wind at 3 ish o'clock. Only saw a batray. The swell was hitting 3' maybe in good sets, wish I brought my board

Dove this AM north Malibu... and it sucked. Green / Red tide had the top of the water column pretty mucked up. Down low it cleared up a little as long as you were over structure and not in kelp... 3-5 inside the kelp 6-8 outside the kelp... at best. Pretty good surge as well... I did shoot two lings 24" and 25" so there was that.

Bump/Surfed Leo This morning, brought the mask just to see how the vis was. It was about 5-7' vis and 3-5' vis in the kelp. overall surge was killing it.

It's been a tale of two cities here lately. North Malibu has been utter crap, South Bu, not so bad. Haven't been out in a few days though, so I'm only commenting on the last two weeks.

Fish are in North Malibu, but you can't see them LOL... it's been a pretty lousy past few months for spearing, but the H&L guys are going crazy.

Some fish have been taken out of N. Bu recently. But, yes, conditions are not idea. Given the increasing S. swell today and tomorrow it's time to put away the spears and wax up a board.

I spent this past sunday relaxing at pt. dume. The water was ridiculously clear. I didn't get out to the rocks but I was swimming in about 20 ft of water over the sand off the beach and it was super clear. I also hiked up to the top to get a sense of how it was out at the pinnacles and it looked BLUE. Sucks there's no more fishing there but I sure wish I had take some dive gear; I would have loved to check it out.

Would love to get the latest 411 on Malibu vis. Wind is blowing like crazy here in SM/Venice right now but that should make it offshore to you. Thinking about hitting it in the AM.

Thanks!

Started at county line and worked my way down to big rock today. Viz ranged from 3’ to 12’, water temps where as high as 69.6 *, decent amount of bait seen, no wsb. Seemed kind of lifeless
