SW Of Clearwater Jan 26th 2020

Plan A was to run NW 50 miles to fish and dive. However, a 3 to 4 ft. NW swell combined with a NNE 12 knot wind put an end to that plan. Plan B was to run SSW in the trough and that plan actually worked. We finally made it out to a wreck in 100’ after a 2 hr. run. We fired down some live baits and those winter time AJ’s gobbled them up immediately. All the AJ’s were well over the 34” minimum size limit but had had to release them as the season is closed. After catching about 10 or 12 we called it quits and sent the divers down.

After a couple dives we had 30 nice size Mango’s and one really fat 12lb Red Grouper. Vis was a snotty 15’ and the temp was about 65. We headed home about 3:30 and got beat up a little as we were heading into a N sea breeze. The N wind made the ride in very cold and we hit the dock a little before dark. Overall a decent day on the water.

Fresh speared fish in January! Not many eating that. I've been happily depleting my frozen supply. Thank you food saver bags!

Running in the dark 50 miles into a 4 foot head sea sucks...good idea to switch to plan B.
