Talking Yellowtail Spearfishing Video *New*

Just uploaded the latest video to spearfishingmovies.com,
This was shot last summer down in Baja when we had one of those days when everything came together so perfectly. Glassy, warm, clear water, teeming with bait and everything that eats it. We slaughtered the jurel and garopa after this video was taken. If I hadn't flooded my HD camera the day before, I would have got some absolutely epic shots this day but instead only had my canon SD550 with about 5 minutes of battery left So I did the best I could, luckily the fish cooperated with my time frame.
....oh well there's always this year to make up for it.

Between shooting, editing, saving, file conversions, uploading, and editing the website you guys wouldn't believe how long this can take so produce something as simple as a 3.5 minute video.

I made a bunch of other updates to the site and uploaded some screen shots of the HD footage i've been stockpiling. Guarenteed to make your trigger finger itch. I can show you this, but anything else and i'd have to kill you. http://www.spearfishingmovies.com/gallery.html

If anyone was curious, I was using a Rabitech 140cm with single 20mm band.

Enjoy!

*Edit - For some reason the clarity is a little better on youtube:

It's amazing to see how fast the YT moves when you shoot ate it. You can see in your slow-mo scene the bands are barely released and the fish is already accelerating. Mario Korf had a video still sequence that showed this same thing on a wahoo shot. I'm not sure he posted on SB though.
Great video Austin!

OK, so you're underwater and take the shot, where do you think all the bubbles come from?

I was actually wondering the same thing. At first I thought that sometimes I rupture the fishes swim bladder and the air escapes when they take off. But I am not totally sure now. Could it be that the rapid movement of the shaft through water causes the salt water to break down on some molecular level and create CO2 and/or O2?

Re: Yellowtail Spearfishing Video *New*

Yeah, I would say cavitation of the water caused by the incredible thrust from the YT.

Re: Yellowtail Spearfishing Video *New*

I'd bet on the swim bladder theory, I've never seen that many bubbles formed by cavitation. But then again, I don't see life through in slow motion, unless I've had too many cold ones

Re: Yellowtail Spearfishing Video *New*

99% sure that even though I hit this fish in the head, that is the swim bladder we are seeing pop. Notice how the big bubble cloud appears right as the fish turns, its like someone popped open a balloon inside the fish which essentially is what happened.

Short but sweet video!
I like how you can hear you equalizing with no hands (about the 2 minute mark).
Thats tough to do.
Talk about multi-tasking. Filming, aiming, and equalizing.
