Quarantine Spearfishing Video | 4/5/2020

We ran out for a few hours and got two quick dives in yesterday before the winds kicked up around noon. Great viz right now, we were only 7 miles offshore.

Cool video and very appropriate song! The weather looked a little questionable out there yesterday. Glad to see the hogs in close and good vis.

Thanks, Dave. Something to watch rather than the news. It was flat calm early, wind kicked up around noon and we were already heading in. But with no sun it was warmer on the bottom rather than topside.

Is your marina still open? I heard everyone was pretty well behaved this Saturday and yesterday's weather probably helped keep people off the water so hopefully they don't order all the marinas to shut down like they threatened.

Wow, that is some good vis for 7 miles out. That's what a drought and low winds will get ya.

Sheriff said they were pleased overall with the boaters behavior this weekend so hopefully they will leave marinas and public boat ramps open.

BTW......how is your boat rehab going? Have not see any updates on that for a while.

Good news for sure.

I made the mistake of bringing the boat home to fair it and Rich got Dan's old Contender in for some upgrades and so I'm waiting my turn.

Yes, 66 days dry. It felt good to get down.

Here's the original video.

Re: Quarantine Spearfishing Video | 4/5/2020

Thankfully our marina is still open but several others shut down voluntarily so there was a noticeable decrease in boat traffic compared to recent weeks. I also heard that the sheriff said boaters were better behaved this weekend so hopefully they won’t shut all marinas and ramps down.

How far out do you normally have to run out to find fish? I'm about to convert to the Gulf from years of diving from South Florida.

All depends on the viz. Summer time wet season is usually not conducive to good viz near shore. Minimum 15-20 miles is pretty typical to find clean water. Though with the economy shut down we may have a couple years of cleaner water closer to shore.
