REEF Lionfish Handling Workshops - South Florida October 2012

Greeting REEF Friends and Lionfish Enthusiasts!

We are excited to announce four upcoming Lionfish Handling Workshops in South Florida during October! Please join us during these free workshops to learn more about the lionfish invasion, lionfish biology, ecological impacts, collecting and handling tools and techniques, and first aid for stings. Following the workshop, there will be two half days of lionfish dives for you to watch underwater demonstrations and practice your new skills. Participants will also have the opportunity to obtain their permit for collecting lionfish within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary no-take zones (SPAs). You can register for the workshop at http://www.REEF.org/lionfish/workshops and you can book your dives directly with the dive operators at the contact information listed below. Spaces are limited and will fill quickly, so register early!

Fort Lauderdale October 6th-7th, 2012:

Workshop at 9:00 am at 15th Street Fisheries, 1900 SE 15th St., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. Dives with Brownie's Southport Divers $65 per person for two dives, or $85 for two dives, tanks, and weights. Saturday October 6th 1:00 pm and Sunday October 7th at 8:00 am. Fort Lauderdale October 13th-14th, 2012:
Workshop at 9:00 am at Divers Direct,180 Gulf Stream Way, Dania, FL 33004. Dives with American Dream II $60 per person for two dives. Saturday October 13th 1:00 pm show and 1:30 pm go, and Sunday October 14th 8:00 am show and 8:30 am go. After registering for the workshop on our website, please reserve spots on the boat at (954)577-0338 or at www.scubafortlauderdale.com. American Dream Dive Charters is located at Hyatt Regency Pier 66, 2301 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

Miami October 20th-21st, 2012:

Workshop at 10:00 am at Monty's South Beach Restaurant, Miami Beach Marina, 300 Alton Road, Miami, FL 33139. Dives with RJ Diving $50 per person for two dives and weights. Saturday October 20th 12:00 pm show and 12:30 pm go, and Sunday October 21st 8:00 am show and 8:30 am go. After registering for the workshop on our website, please reserve spots on the boat at (305)861-6277 or at www.rjdiving.com. The boat is docked at Miami Beach Marina, 300 Alton Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139.

Palm Beach County October 27th-28th, 2012:

Workshop at 10:00 am Jupiter Dive Center, 1001 North Hwy A1A Alternate, Jupiter, FL 33477. Dives also at Jupiter Dive Center, $65 for two tank dives, boxed lunch, and weights. Saturday October 27th 12:30 pm show and 1:30 pm go, and Sunday October 28th 8:00 am show and 9:00 am go.
