Mukilteo Oil Docks by Kayak (and a ruptured eardrum)

I tried spearfishing at the Mukilteo Oil Docks by kayak, but unfortunately ruptured my eardrum while investigating a deep hole. My GoPro video actually recorded the sound of my eardrum popping.

https://vimeo.com/128830120

All of the usual suspects were present: A bunch of scuba divers, Sally the Harbor Seal (shadowed me most of the time), Rockfish, Perch, massive schools of tiny fish, abundant crab and starfish, but no Lingcod.

I suspect the hook-and-line fishermen have hit this area hard. I saw a few boats fishing. They get a 3 week headstart on Lingcod.

I hope my ear heals quickly.

Bummer dude! Best to listen to the doc', tho'... I pushed it with a sinus infection last year & filled my inner ear up with blood from barotrauma. I was out for months after that.

That blows man! Hopefully you got some ling's before this happened? I normally skip ling-cod season here in Seattle because I do most of my spearfishing up in the Canadian San Juan's but I've decided to check out a few spots this year. I went over to Blakley rock off Bainbridge and managed to score a 5 lb ling. You know of any other good spots around the Seattle area?

Good news. Went to see the doctor about my ear. My eardrum is not perforated. It is red and swollen with dried blood. Doctor says some small blood veins popped, but everything is fine. No pain. No hearing loss. I'll be back at it this weekend.

I shot one Lingcod at Don Armeni Boat Ramp on Thursday and another one outside the breakwater at Port of Edmonds' Marina on Sunday. Next, I'll try the breakwater at the Elliot Bay Marina.
