Aussies Looking for Cali Spearo Buddies in September

Hi Guys,

We are two Australian guys looking to fit in some good spearing during our California road trip throughout September. Time and place are very flexible.

We are 24, with about 4 years experience freedive spearfishing. Max depth of about 20m (about 60ft), but happy to dive both shallow and open water. Any opportunities would be amazing.

We will be buying new gear in Cali and are comfortable with reels, float lines and combos (I know some people prefer diving buddies with a certain set up).

Any advice would also be greatly appreciated as we have never dove in the states.

Thanks

Ben and Ale

Re: Aussies Looking for Cali Spearo Buddies in September

This might sound horrible, but my new wife and I are actually looking to make some extra $$ to help pay some bills. We have a 3 bedroom house a mile from Redondo Beach Pier in one direction and Hermosa Pier in the other. Very close to Palos Verdes.

Since my son has decided not to stay and will be moving back to Canada in September, we are thinking about renting out the two bedrooms for short terms. I just sold my boat, but there are probably plenty of people to hop on their boats and I can take you shore diving here. Might be a bit better than staying in a hotel or a hostel, since we have a full house, two bathrooms, laundry, big ass BBQ, garage, yard/patio to clean off gear/clean fish and we're so close to the beach. We also have a couple pf surfboards and bikes and there's lots of street parking.

We're really close to LAX and could pick you up. Let me know if you're interested.

My boat should be working if you guys want to dive on the weekends. Go to Catalina or San Clemente if you want to pay fuel (16ft rib with twin 50's, gas isnt too bad)

That sounds great and thank you for the offer. Our trip is going to last 6-12 months, so we are really trying to stretch our budget. The plan is to try and couchsurf most of America to save money, however if we have little luck, or timing doesn't work out, we will definitely send you a message!

We are planning to travel the entire coastline and spend most of September and October doing so. I road tripped the entire West and East coast back in 2012 (unfortunately without any gear), and was blown away by hwy 1. Couldn't help myself but to come back and attack the coast with some new gear (which is so much cheaper in the states). Very open ended, so we will go where ever!

Thank you everyone for such an amazing response!

We cannot wait to catch some fish with what seem like amazing spearos.

I believe I have replied to everyone's PM's, however these Bolivian computers are very sketchy, so let me know if it hasn't worked.

Happy hunting

Not sure if it fits with your time or budget plans, but, I hear the Triton X Open is a great event. It is Sept 13th and could be a great way to meet a bunch of spearos and to experience the Mendocino area....
