surfing

This is actually serious guys...

I have a 9'6" board, yet to use, and given the conditions I bet I would have a better time surfing than fishing.

If any of you guys can show me around pm me to set something up!

Re: surfing

Not sure of the sweet spots here but I've been told Commercial is nice and has some nice breaks. Like I mentioned on the other thread, I have one gathering dust that hasn't seen the water in years that I have been dying to get out on again. Let me know.

Re: surfing

Have not posted here in a long time. You've got my attention.

I had good times at Swamies' when I lived in San Marcos So Cal, but I'm stuck in the desert now, looking at the NOAA charts when I can't sleep at night wishing I were on the east coast this last few weeks with all those beautiful sets, day after day... You got it made! Get out there! You'll learn. Be glad you don't have to fight for space like we did at Swamies back in 76...

Re: surfing

Go to you local surf shop. They'll put you on to a decent break. South Florida isn't as good as SoCal, nor is it as crowded. Different vibe here.

Re: surfing

9'6" is to long of a board for south florida waves, it would only be good for when the water is calm with a nice swell which hardly every happens. I would get a 6-7ft board

Maybe for Jupiter, but South Beach waves are usually just wind chop. On a 9'6", you should be able to catch some waves. Every once in a blue moon, you might get good enough waves to ride a short board. This is just from my experiences in Miami, but I've caught ten times more waves on a long board than a 7 footer.

I've been wanting to go up to jupiter to do some kiteboarding in those waves...

Re: surfing

Here in Cocoa Beach, at the pier, I've been out the last 2 days. . .CLASSIC!!!! conditions. Slight NW wind (glassy) and 4-7 foot faces. Fantastic lefts and rights! I am so tired, I can barely type. . .goin back out again later today, when the tide goes back out. . . maybe around mid tide. . .YEEE HAW!!!!

Re: surfing

Forgot to add, for all you old "surf dogs" out there who might read this. . .I ran into a guy at the Pier, this AM, whom I haven't surfed with there, since around 1967! I told him "gee, it's been around 30 years since I've surfed with you here. . .got to thinkin about it later. . .been more like 43 years!!!! Man, how time flies!!! He used to be one of the 2 top East Coast surfers, back in the day and it was great to see him out there again, at the Pier. . .talk about Deja vu!

I was asking some of the young, hot "Kelly Slater type" "slashy kids" out there, out of curiosity. . .do you know who that is??? nobody even knew. . . one guy said "was he a surfer"? I felt sad. Wow, back in the day. . . .how people soon forget. . . . . . and time moves on. . . .

BTW, Kelly Slater is an 8 time world surf champion, from Cocoa Beach.

Yea.... That's why you need such a big board. Paddleboarding is your best bet in Miami.

There were a lot of guys on short boards wednesday and thursday on S Beach.
